You can always tell an engineer...I just put a small piece of black electrical tape on the dash in front of the light. 3 years later, I'd totally forgotten about the light (heck, it may have burnt out by now). #2. Steering wheel anyone? - from Daniel Snyder

Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2001 15:01:47 -0800 From: "Daniel Snyder" <m3ltw@msn.com> Subject: Steering wheel anyone? I have a nice new (almost) steering wheel w/ airbag from my 95 M3 LTW. I'd like to sell it for a few bucks (well, maybe a few hundred?). It was taken off when the car had a few hundred miles (for a Momo wheel that I could get closer to me--and didn't contain any explosives). If interested, contact me privately. If anyone else has a value on such an item, please let me know. Located in the Bay area, but will ship anywhere. Dan S.

Cheers, Jim Bassett - yes, I'm an engineer :-) 1998 M3/4 - all dash lights functioning properly 1993 325is #44 KP - needs to have "SRS" light permanently (and elegantly :-)) turned off, eventually

There is a piece of tape covering the SRS warning light. It's a race car; who cares how elegant it is? Re: Toluene. How about 100 octane unleaded race gas? In the SF Bay Area, it's available at the pump from Sears Point Rwy ($4.50), in San Jose at the Union 76 on Almaden/Foxworth ($4.09), and probably other stations. I had to ask a Union 76 tanker driver where to buy race gas because the clerks at the local Union 76 had no idea what I was talking about. I think that race shops such as Frey in Milpitas and Zoom Cycles in Mtn View can order it by the barrel (as small as 5 gallon barrels). I also knew a guy who delivered barrels of VIP race gas to whoever ordered it, sort of like a milkman. I think his customers were various race shops. I haven't seen him around for a while, tho. -- Scott

My friend dynoed his bone stock 95 with 58k miles and got 207.3hp/198.0tq just minutes before. The similarity in the curves is striking, it really looks like the same car: http://www.conti.net/m3/dynorccvsbdt.jpg - reid > Yup. I have a 96 w/ 68k miles on the clock. That is not an old motor. 50k is probably right about the time the motor is finally well broken in. Although I come from a VW past where motors don't need to be rebuilt until 150k-200k miles (even if raced) I doubt BMW engines are much different. M3 engines should easily last 100k+ miles before any decrease in performance is noticed... mark From: Steven Tom <stom@qualcomm.com> Reply-To: Steven Tom <stom@qualcomm.com> To: E36M3 <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Just got my car dynoed Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2001 17:39:40 -0600 Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2001 15:30:43 -0700 From: Steven Tom <stom@qualcomm.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Just got my car dynoed Yup. I have the Sony CDX-C910 in my Jeep with the XDP-210 eq and crossover. In fact I think I might have a spare XDP-210 if you might be interested. I plan on switching to Morel components for my front stage in the E36 M3, they are an excellent speaker. A fairly unknown brand of speakers that I have had great success with is Vifa. I have 4 6.5 mid/mid bass drivers 2 silk dome neo tweeters and 2 Kicker solobaric subs in my jeep. The 6.5 will hit as low as 55hz so they sound incredible. You can get them at http://www.madisound.com they are inexpensive as well, like $30 a piece. The Vifa subs on the other hand don't cut it. In the M3 I plan on: Head Unit-Pioneer premier DEX-P9 Amps- Xtant x604 and an x1001 Fronts- Morel 6.5", 3", and 1" tweet Rears- None Subs- Undecided Cable- all Monster M series Paul Agustin
