Has anyone heard anything about the possiblity of solving this problem with a little software swap or tweaking? It seems that these programs would be software based and not require any different hardware from program to program. I am wondering if someone like JimC would be able to do a little tweaking to get us the S6 mode. Or, if one could simply get a hold of the code from the Euro version and do a little flash upgrade. What do you guys think/know. Greg

The place to take it in DFW area is Discount Tire store at Tollway and Park. Other than DT repairing punctures for free, this particular DT store is the preferred tire/wheel mounting stop for the local BMW/P-car/SCCA crowd. If you managed to get the nail into the sidewall (impossible with an M3?), than the tire is DOA and no self respecting tire place will even attempt to patch it (the patch will come out since the side wall flexes a lot). alex f Sean Dowd <m3@dowds.net To: E36M3 <e36m3@bmw-m.net> > cc: Subject: [E36M3] Patch or Replace 11/16/01 10:39 AM Please respond to Sean Dowd Date: Fri, 16 Nov 2001 10:26:51 -0600 (CST) From: Sean Dowd <m3@dowds.net> Subject: Patch or Replace Looks like I've picked up a nail in my right rear tire. The tires are Bridgestone Potenza S-02 Pole Positions with about 5k miles. Anyone have any thoughts on which is worse: patching or replacing one side? I think the leak is pretty slow and the nail is still there (roofing nail between treads). The car is never tracked. Recommendations on tire shops in the North Dallas area? Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2001 13:50:34 -0600 From: alex.fadeev@verizon.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Euro E36 M3 HFM part numbers Bruce, You can use either euroM3 HFM (I think the BMW part # is: 280-217-806) or a 540/740 HFM (part # 280-217-800 ). Either a RHS or a LHS HFM from '93-'98 540/740/840 V8s (M60? engines) will work. The former is going to run you around $400, while the latter are readily available from most junk yards for well under $200. The two look the same, work the same but have different HFM to airbox mounting tabs. Not a concern unless you intend to mate the HFM to a euro-airbox. alex f Bruce Mitchell <bruce.mitchell@med To: E36M3 <e36m3@bmw-m.net> iaone.net> cc: Subject: [E36M3] Euro E36 M3 HFM part numbers 11/17/01 02:19 PM Please respond to Bruce Mitchell Date: Sat, 17 Nov 2001 14:14:54 -0600 From: Bruce Mitchell <bruce.mitchell@mediaone.net> Subject: Euro E36 M3 HFM part numbers Does anyone have the BMW *and* Bosch part numbers for the Euro E36 M3 HFM? Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2001 17:54:59 -0500 From: "Paul Elliott" <pelliott@rcn.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] rear brake pad life? Lowell, Steve Hazard just made me realize the likely reason for this is that if you normally are used to high throttle launches, ie, not necessarily enough to do a smoky burnout every time, but enough to be kind of on the cusp of slipping a wheel for a moment, well that's enough to trigger a right or left side rear brake application, triggered when the LSD goes beyond 25% past lock. Given that most of my launches are at that level, especially with the SC blowing away, I think it explains the accelerated wear rate...From other cars, most of us are used to an approx. 2 to 1 wear rate of front to rear....As you say, in our M3s, at least those with ASC, I think its probably closer to 1 to 1. But you have a '95 b/4 ASC, so Im surprised youre wearing as fast as me...Except you do alot of track work. Still, no matter, I would think that the '95s would be closer to the accustomed 2 to 1 ratio. Interesting. --------------------------------------------------------- Paul Elliott '99 White M3; < 35K miles; Dinan stage II sc kit; Rotex pads;X-Brace; Stygar SS and Clutch Stop; Sound by Polk, Excelon, JLAudio ----- Original Message ----- From: <LoweSeaton@aol.com> To: <pelliott@rcn.com> Cc: <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Monday, November 19, 2001 12:48 PM Subject: Re: [E36M3] rear brake pad life? > Paul, > > I've noticed my rear brake pads wear at about about the same rate as the fronts so 34K for the rears does not sound out of line. > > Lowell Seaton > '95 M3 > Dallas, Texas >
