Key thing to remember, when mounting, have someone push it as far back as possible when you drill the holes. You would not believe how import an inch of seat travel can be. Thanks!) when it occurred. No problem. As fixes go, this wasn't even a 1/2 beer job. For those who haven't done it yet, while you're on your hose clamp mission, replace the crimp clamp on the small coolant return line on the top of the radiator on the driver side. Take off the crimp clamp and install a regular screw-type clamp. The crimp clamp loosens with age and allows the hose to pop off. This happened to an E36 at a Hoosier Chapter school in early November. The hose popped off, flapped around, hit the engine fan, broke every fan blade, and spewed coolant all over the track. A simple 50-cent part could have prevented the problem. Bob Stommel Team Stommel Motorsports Indianapolis

This country needs more lawyers to help the innocent consumers! ;-/ If I recall correctly, the alcohol-based (methanol and/or ethanol) Oxygenates added to gasoline (but not MTBE ?) for RFG-I were not only corrosive to metal parts in the fuel-system, but also caused breakdown and failures of rubber components they came in contact with. I remember several articles in AutoWeek in the early 90's describing actual fuel leaks due to failed rubber hoses and seals. In particular they mentioned BMW. I hope everyone realizes that alcohol in our gasoline is a political EVIL we all must fight. -Bob Stoll 98 M3 Garage Queen ----- Original Message ----- > Date: Tue, 20 Nov 2001 21:50:52 > From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> > Subject: Deteriorating Fuel System Hoses > > I was reading about fuels, additives, etc., on the ChevronTexaco website: > > http://www.chevron.com/prodserv/fuels/ > >------------------>cut, snip<-------------------------< > (> Q: Why did Chevron put a warning label on its dispensers when it > introduced RFG in California? > > A: The label warned the owners of older or high-mileage vehicles that > testing indicated that California RFG may cause some fuel system > parts, particularly those older or worn fuel system parts in a very > small percentage of older or high-mileage vehicles, to fail. Date: Tue, 20 Nov 2001 23:31:10 -0500 From: Dan Miley <dmiley@rcn.com> Subject: Noah car cover from BMW dealer I just bought the BMW/Noah car cover from my dealer. The list is $185. Less the 20% CCA discount, it cost me $148 plus tax. That seems to be better than you'll do at BMP or other places that sell the Noah cover. My car just went into indoor winter storage so I can't vouch for how the cover will do outside. But those covers seem to have a good reputation. --Dan
