#2. Loud screech upon startup - from HYPERM3@aol.com

Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2001 11:32:02 EST From: HYPERM3@aol.com Subject: Loud screech upon startup Hey all, Just want to know if anyone else had experienced this or might know what it is. When I do a cold startup, or if the car hasn't been driven in a few days there is a loud metal type of grind/screech and then it goes away. I don't normally hear it after its been driven and then go to start it up. Would like to know if anyone has any ideas. Thanks, Alex "HyperM3" Demsky 97 SC 33k on the clock

I did this on my 95 when switching to white faces. You will need a good assortment of torx drivers to do the job, but it is not rocket science. I figured it out myself by just taking my time, etc. this may be the cheapest fix to your gauge accuracy problem. I have a friend who is considering the purchase of an E36 in the Scottsdale, AZ area. He needs the car inspected by a reputable technician, preferably with performance tuning experience. Can anyone give me any leads on a good independent shop/dealership around those parts? Negotiations are happening today and moving fast so if you can help, please do! Please reply privately. It could possibly be a bearing in one of these devices, also. Today I picked up my car from Ray, after he replaced the timing chain tensioners (both) and the VANOS unit. The idle is now quiet and like new! My friend and I are both amazed at how this 95 M3's engine purrs now and settles into a smooth idle, with 112k miles on the clock. - Chris

#10. dyno results - from Kit Wetzler
Top
Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2001 21:45:33 -0800 From: "Kit Wetzler" <kitwetzler@mindspring.com> Subject: dyno results I just had my dinan supercharger dyno'd. I have the stage 1 supercharger, with a lightweight flywheel and an AA gen3 exhaust. Ended up with 293 horsepower at the rear wheels, with 248 ft lbs of torque. That equal 354 hp and 300 ft lbs of torque, using a 1.21 correction factor. Just about exactly what dinan claims for their stage II. This is Good. :) I suspect that a part of that power comes from using octane booster, I'm using the Amsoil Series 2000. Realistically, it raises gasoline about 2 - 2.5 full points... (from 91 to 93.5 or so). (this is according to some tests I read on the web...) The shop (dynospot racing) hasn't ever seen a supercharged m3 without other mods, dyno higher... -kit
