This is Good. :)" It seems as if your freshly SC'd car is running very well, I have seen many SC cars dyno much lower (265-280rwhp) so you should be happy. I do however feel that the 1.21 correction factory is a *bit* optimistic. I'd say closer to1.2 for an NA car and 1.18 for a seriously modified or forced induction car. Anyway.....Happy ///Motoring :) Rob

My car dyno'd at 273 hp (uncorrected) and 231 lb-ft at the rear wheels, which equals (again, using a 1.21 correction factor) 330 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque! My setup: '95 M3 with stock 3.2 Euro motor/6 speed tranny/Euro 3.23 rear diff. Only mod: Supersprint Euro cat-back. #4. VANOS Noise - Final Result - from Roy Kao

Date: Sat, 24 Nov 2001 12:17:05 -0500 From: "Roy Kao" <bimmerphile@hotmail.com> Subject: VANOS Noise - Final Result Firstly, thanks to all the digesters who provided feedback both privately and through this forum regarding the ominous noise from the engine of my '99. I got the car back from the dealer yesterday and it appears that the problem came from both the water pump and the fan clutch, combining to make those rattling noises. The dealer also changed two belts and now the car is back to idling normally with all the "right" noises. FWIW, the water pump is one of the later models with the metallic impeller. One tidbit the dealer tech told me is that if it was the VANOS going south, my "Check Engine" light would go on if the OBD sensed an imminent failure with that component. Whew!! It wasn't as expensive a noise as I'd feared...thanks again for all your inputs. That equal 354 hp and 300 ft lbs of torque, using a 1.21 correction factor<< Yes, this is good.....Youre the first I've seen to hit Dinan's figure right on the nose...When you consider all the variables involved in actually achieving that number, its quite remarkable, really. For what its worth, I've come close to that number using several averaged Gtech runs....I'm curious, how many runs did you do, and did the number come down after the first few, after heat soak had a chance to do its nasty deed? I ordered the AA water/alcohol injection system using Aquamist parts, and it should be here next week...I expect this to go along way toward alleviating the only negative aspect of the non cooled Vortech kits, heat soak. >>I suspect that a part of that power comes from using octane booster, I'm using the Amsoil Series 2000. Realistically, it raises gasoline about 2 - 2.5 full points... (from 91 to 93.5 or << I'm not familiar with amsoils particular booster, but, are you sure about the amount of octane increase? You are aware, right, that all the others, when they say, '...will raise your octane x points...', are talking about DECIMAL points only.....ie, if it claims 4 points, its claim is that it will really raise your octane from whatever you are pumping to that x + .4. If they're the corner markers, I think the coupe and sedan are different. Certainly the E36 corner markers don't fit an E34. If they're the turn signal repeaters on the fenders, I thought 92-95 was one style, and 96+ was another style. Wasn't aware the E34 used the same ones. - reid

With > Mobil super +, youd be running 93.4 for instance.... Yup. Amsoil claims an up to *7* point increase... this is possible, if you are running like 87 octane gasoline and mix it in a really high percentage... ;) Amsoil's octane boost was actually tested by a two different independent test sources and compared against some of the others... it actually does boost octane a full 2.3 points or so. NOS's racing formula octane boost did 2 points. 104+ did .5 octane. not very impressive. but, those 2.3 points are enough to make a significant power difference, in both peak and delivery. -kit, who must find time to intercool his car.

#10. Advice on shift gate slop please - from Thomas Salva

Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 10:48:59 -0600 From: Thomas Salva <tsalva@ix.netcom.com> Subject: Advice on shift gate slop please Hello Listers, My 98 M3/4 with 51000 miles (and 11 track schools) has the following problem: when the shifter is in any gear you can "row" the lever around about a 1.5" dia. circle --> i.e. slop. Also when it is moved to the next gear is moves very loosely, that is there is no feeling of overcoming a detent to pull it out of one gear and into the next. I took it to the dealer to fix several other problems (air pump, airbag sensor & shift knob light), they did not fix it but the Tech. made the following statement: "found slight movement (in the shifter); recommend replacing shift rods and bushings first. But problem could be more serious." Is the dealers recommendation correct ?? Would a UUC short shift kit or other aftermarket shift kit solve this problem ?????
