#2. YeeeeeeeHaaaaaaa.....Eurosport OBDII Cam Kit Report - from Wayne Miller

The car drives as smooth as before but it just pulls straight to the redline in each gear (at least through 4th when I was at 120). It just feels right and it is hard to describe without driving it. I agree with Steve that it feels like it could pull all the way to 8,000 RPM because it shows no signs of letting up at 7,000 RPM. At 5,000 RPM in 2nd or 3rd, it pulls so hard that I actually felt myself being pressed into my seat. Forget about the neck snap in first - even the Quaife that I praise so much has trouble keeping the wheels on the ground (I also have a lightweight flywheel and 3.46 ring & pinion too) so first comes and goes in an instant. The moment that I put it in the garage tonight, I started to look forward to my drive to work tomorrow. Truthfully, most of it was installed yesterday but something wasn't quite right so we took it apart today and found that my VANOS was stuck. If anyone needs work done in the NYC/NJ area, I can't recommend Ray Adam enough. He is a nice guy and really knows his stuff. He was very professional and could probably have done this job with his eyes closed - well, maybe one eye closed. You can reach him at (732) 713-2700. I will be having some other people in the NY area drive it over the next few days so they can report from outsider's perspectives. Fire away with any questions. -Wayne '99 M3/2 with just about everything and now close to 300hp (to be verified on Thursday).

Listed on AllData Feb '01." I actually have the original letter from BMW regarding this recall ("Recall Campaign No. 98V-178" dated July 1999). I obtained it when I bought my most recent M3 (1995) a few weeks ago. I told you the previous (original) owner was very meticulous. It even came paper clipped to the dealer invoice where he had the recall completed. If someone has the ability to post this letter on a website for the entire group to read/download/print, I am more than happy to scan and email it. HTH, Scott

#6. Trailer hitch Destruction - from Ben Tickner
Top
Date: Mon, 3 Dec 2001 09:46:47 -0500 From: "Ben Tickner" <ben@infofusion.com> Subject: Trailer hitch Destruction All right are your ready for this? I have a Dalan(25$) hitch (prior used on 3 e36 vehicles). Before purchasing my 8 inch lifted Silverado 2500 HD. I used the M3 (1995) to tow my four wheeler, spare tires, tools and gas! I had no problem and I would travel up to 80mph perodically. I did notice my gas as mileage drop to 15! That's not all. After taking my girlfriend riding she insisted on going each weekend with us. Next week I bought her one, a bigger trailer to hold two 4 wheelers and all our gear. Did I use the M3? NO!!! I tried putting the trailer on the hitch in my driveway and needless to say I bottomed out the rear suspension. The hitch held the weight at a stopped position no problem, I would however guarantee failure backing out of the driveway or stopping at a light. What can the hitch/trunk feasibly hold? My 4 wheeler weighs 523lbs, the single trailer was aluminum, the extra gas can was 6 gal US, and I had a 6 drawer craftsman chest on the front. I saw no visible damage to the car (except gas mileage) for the 11 60 mile trips that I took. I am sure that if you are towing a couple sets of wheels and tools you will never have a problem unless you race other cars with the trailer attached! If anyone would like a pic of my car at the dealer with trailer attached let me know. The master tech at my dealer has a good one with lots of people in disbelief. I will scan it and send it in. Date: Mon, 03 Dec 2001 15:42:39 From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] 95 cam timing - response from Brett As Chester said, you can visually check the cam timing. According to the Bentley manual, if you set the crank position for TDC (where it should be for cam removal), the cam gears have alignment marks which should be pointed up (check the Bentley guide for the exact positioning). According to Bentley, removing and replacing cams isn't as simple as you'd think. You also need some special BMW tools. It sounds like something best left to a _QUALIFIED_ mechanic. -rb >Date: Sat, 1 Dec 2001 17:17:07 -0800 (PST) >From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> >Subject: Re: [E36M3] 95 cam timing - response from Brett > >You could check the timing by removing the covers to expose the cams. >You'd then need the cam locator tool that aligns the cam for top dead >center. Ahh...good point, but I have still been catching as many of the SCCA Valvoline Run-off replays I can which took place at Mid-Ohio. Seems Speedvision feels it proper to run one replay at 10:00 Monday not again until 10:00 Friday and so on. At this rate, this will take me through to the switch over to NASCARVision. Best regards, Rich - Ducking the infomercials and Popiel ;-)
