Yeah Wayne, that's REAL helpful <bg>. Which model did you buy? Does it reach to the front subframe? (I assume it reaches the rear subframe, and has no problem lifting from the sides.) Thanks, Jim Bassett - probably needs a new jack, but has already spent too much money on car stuff 1998 M3/4 - not up in the air all that often anymore 1993 325is #44 KP - hopefully only up in the air to change tires :-)

#2. Track wheels/tires FS - from James Clay

Date: Tue, 4 Dec 2001 18:02:56 -0500 From: "James Clay" <james@bimmerworld.com> Subject: Track wheels/tires FS We are going to be buying some wheels for a 24 hour race at the end of the month and then selling them in January after we are done using = them. We will probably have 12 wheels available. The wheels we are thinking about are both light and good track wheels. We will sell a set of four BBS RKs for $1000 or four Borbet Type T (3 pounds heavier) for $500. They will come with good track tires (Hoosier, Toyo, or Michelin Pilot Cup R tires) that have some life left and extra used tires will be available cheap. All wheels will be straight and used one race only, tire marks will probably happen - if it is a real problem, we can clean them off or sort them out. If anyone is interested, let me know, can ship anywhere after the race. =20 James =20 ----------------------------------------------------------- James Clay http://www.bimmerworld.com <http://www.bimmerworld.com>=20 Engineered BMW Performance BMWCCA/SCCA Racecar Rental Genuine OEM and Used BMW Parts (540) 639-9648 ----------------------------------------------------------- =20 =20

#3. AC Hydraulic Jack - MORE DETAILED Review - from Wayne Miller
Top
Date: Wed, 5 Dec 2001 14:56:52 -0500 From: "Wayne Miller" <m3@waynemiller.com> Subject: AC Hydraulic Jack - MORE DETAILED Review I purchased the DK20 AC jack from Steve D. The foot pedal is cool (on the DK20Q) but I didn't think that it was worth the extra money. The body of the jack is just a bit too high to reach the front subframe so I lift one side of the car to pre-load the wheels to get more room to jack from the front (i.e., just lift the left-front until the tire is off the ground and then let it down - the car will sit a little bit higher). I have the Euro springs (about the same ride height) and JTD Underpanel so I don't know if it will clear under the stock thing that always breaks. I am sure that if you jack up both sides, it will fit. I have no trouble jacking up the rear differential and I even have a trailer hitch. The rubber coated handle is a nice touch (not as much of a worry about it falling one something and scratching it) and it rolls well without making a ton of noise like my old Sears one. The release mechanism is fairly easy to modulate - you pull out the handle and turn it. The blue is a looks good too. That about covers it. Any other questions? -Wayne -----Original Message----- From: jim.bassett@alloptic.com [mailto:jim.bassett@alloptic.com] Sent: Wednesday, December 05, 2001 1:34 PM To: m3@waynemiller.com; e36m3@bmw-m.net Subject: RE: [E36M3] AC Hydraulic Jack - Review > For those who are interested in the AC jack group purchase, I > bought one > from Steve D. a few months ago and I am very happy with it. > > Not much of a review I know but what else can I say? I ended up getting 20 mpg (19.77 if you want > to know exactly 227miles/11.48gallons). Now as most of you know I'm > skippin' happy if I get more than 17mpg I experienced the same thing in my '95. Before the cams I was getting between 16-18mpg for my average drive. With the same driving style and the new cams, I am getting 20-22mpg, and even got 25mpg on a trip down to Laguna! Some of this I chalk up to fresh injectors. But that can't be all. Either way, I'm not complaining. One thing that's annoying is, the trip computer doesn't work anymore after installing the higher-rate injectors. It thinks I'm getting 30+mpg. :-( -peterg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com

Date: Wed, 5 Dec 2001 15:25:01 -0500 From: "Jeremy Conners" <Jeremy.Conners@compdevsys.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Front spoiler outer plastic pieces Michael Morris was worried about driving w/o the pork chops: I had an "incident" in June, and all the plastic up front was destroyed. Luckily, there was no frame damage. I decided that I would do most of the work myself. While everything was on order, I drove around with an empty lower fascia. No fogs, ducts, undertray, lwr grille, pork chops. Just the bumper cover and bumper beam. I even removed the A/C fan & shroud. The car was driving fine with no ill effects. I don't think there's too much to worry about w/o the underbody ducting / ground effects. I wouldn't do any excessive speed runs w/o the parts though. If you want further info on my repair and parts involved, let me know. Jeremy Conners 97 M3

#9. Old M3/New M3 - from Rob Jackowitz

Date: Wed, 05 Dec 2001 16:14:02 -0500 From: "Rob Jackowitz" <rjme@msn.com> Subject: Old M3/New M3 Well folks...she's finally gone. I took a mere $26k from a very lucky person who bought my pristine '97 E36M3 with 39k miles. I did, however, replace it with an '02 E46M3 with 6 miles. Even better...I went about a month having two M3's sitting side-by-side in my garage :) I was a little iffy about the new one at first...so I took it up to Lime Rock with about 400 miles on it and gave it a proper initiation. Although limited to 5,500 rpm and 3/4 throttle, the car performed incredibly and I wasn't much off my normal E36M3 pace. Anyway, I won't bore you all with my personal opinions and comparisons, but I will say this. Yes, the new one is much improved in most respects but, although I am still getting used to the new one, it does not quite have the same "steering feel" as the old one. Not bad mind you, but not as good as the E36. That incredible "directness" that the E36 conveys is not quite there. Having driven them both back-to-back for nearly a month, I can still attest to the fact that the E36M3 is a "great" car. Anyway, it has been great being a member of this list. Your collective input and knowledge has proven invaluable over the last few years. I will most likely lurk off into the sunset...until an E36M3 race car materializes. Until then...
