#1. Headliner falling apart ? - from philooo

Hello guys, My headliner is going bad, the glue is not doing the job correctly anymore, I think it is certainly due to the fact I am living in south Florida where summer sun is no joke. I was wondering if any of you already try to get the headliner out of the car ? or trying to re glue it while inside the car ?... The dealer is giving me an estimate of $600 and I would like to try the DIY way before going to a brand new one... Thank you, for your help. Philippe DAIX 1995 M3, no mods at all ;o

The plastic mounts attached to the door panels (what actually holds the door panels to the door) are coming apart. Time to replace. Anyone on the list have black, front door panels for a coupe? If you've prepped that racer and have these laying around, I'll take 'em off your hands. Please e-mail me privately. #5. RE: [E36M3] R&R Powerflex bushings on front lower control arm - from Bob Lenarcik

Here's what I did: a) I used a table vise to press the Powerflex bushings into new brackets. I used some silicone spray and made sure to put even pressure around the bushing face in contact with the vice. A piece of scrap metal would work. I also made sure the bushing bracket was centered in the vice so it would allow the bushing to go in evenly. Once the bushing was in as far as it would go, I carefully used the vice to press in around the edges a little at a time until the entire rear end of the bushing was through. B) I prepped the end of the control arm by using some emery cloth to get all the road gunk and rust off. I made sure the entire end was clean and smooth. I then put the copper grease on the arm end and in the inside of the bushing. It was pretty easy to twist the bushing & bracket onto the arm. I did have a problem getting the bracket to line up with the chassis mounting point. I looked at the stock bushing and the arm end and noticed that if I chamfered the ID of front part of the bushing, I could get the needed room to line everything up. I used a Dremel tool and a router bit to chamfer the hole 45 deg (about 1.5 to 2mm). I still had to wrestle the bracket a bit to get the holes to line up but it was enough. Hope it helps. - Bob -----Original Message----- From: VT [mailto:fstbmwm3@yahoo.com] Sent: Monday, December 10, 2001 2:59 AM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] R&R Powerflex bushings on front lower control arm ....snip... My next steps are a) pressing the new bushings into their housing. QUESTION :What do you guys recommend ? I have a table vise setup and I plan to use the vise to press the bushings into the housing. b) Bolting-on the housing and "porking" the bushing hole with the lower arm. Powerflex includes some lubricant (looks exactly like hi temp copper grease) QUESTION: Since I am not a Camasutra expert what is the best way to pork the bushing ? I need to put pressure to the bushing+housing to fit around the control arm rod thingiee. Any pointers ? I am thinking of using a spark plug socket and a rubber hammer and forcing the bushing on the rod of the arm. ....snip... I couldn't make the old ones budge using a 500lb machinist's press and I didn't have the tools to hack n slash them out. Where can you get new brackets for $50 a pair? I just paid $56 *each* at a dealer. - Bob <snip> For anyone else contemplating this job, especially if you don't have air tools, I'd strongly consider having the old bushings pressed out and the new pressed in by the dealer or at an automotive machine shop. If you don't have another car to drive you can buy an extra set of bushing carriers for under $50 the pair, and even sell the old ones to somebody else doing the same procedure. <snip> Neil 96 M3

I'm running Pilot MXX3 255/40/17 on the back of my coupe, but had to roll the fenders. Just a little rub on hard turns. I've got the M Contour rims 8.5/17/et 41mm. Stock suspension, with Eibach sway bars. It's the same with or without stock bars. My rear tire wear is perfectly even. I also noticed some play in both and one isn't all that smooth when it rotates. I know that this bearing doesn't move all that much but is it possible that worn bearings could cause vibration under braking similar to worn control arm bushings or warped rotors? Bob Lenarcik
