I ended up with -2.25 driver, -3 passenger. Went through tires too quickly. Swapped back to stock. You'll notice that side to side numbers were drastically different. Adjustable plates are the way to go. steve At 01:48 PM 12/11/01 -0600, Berney, Butch wrote: >Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2001 11:42:41 -0800 >From: "Berney, Butch" <butch.berney@lamrc.com> >Subject: RE: [E36M3] RE: Front strut bearing question > >Good point Alex. It seems that there isn't a consensus on the whether the original bearings from my car are still usable. At this point, the car has been up on stands for 3 weeks and I want to drive it. I only get 3-4 hours a week to work on the car and I've been doing more work than just the shocks/springs. Not having easy access to air tools also makes me less than willing to pull apart the assembly. Besides, the roads are in pretty good shape and the car won't be driven all that much over the next few months [ (heavy rain + mountains)/(mudslides + 4x4) = commute to & from work]. I've had the struts swapped to get extra neg camber, but it was too much for the tires at the time - Yoko AVS Sports. They wore very quickly on the inner part of the tread with -2.2 degs of camber. I will probably stick with the original bearings now and then get the Ground Control plates in the spring. - Bob -----Original Message----- From: Robert Chay [mailto:rchay@mindspring.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 11, 2001 12:40 PM To: Bob Lenarcik Subject: Re: [E36M3] RE: Front strut bearing question Bob, If you're going to get camber plates, I would strongly recommend either Ground Control or TC Kline. They're a bit more expensive (~$400) but well worth it. I use KMAC's now and will be changing to TC Kline next spring. The KMACs are sloppy. -Bobby '98 M3

Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2001 15:29:26 -0800 From: "Bob Lenarcik" <lenarcik@pacbell.net> Subject: RE: [E36M3] RE: Front strut bearing question I have the H&R Coilovers which allow easy height adjustment, so I don't think the 1/4" would be big deal. However, I remember reading there was a caster difference between the 95 and 96+ M3s. It seems that installing the 95 plates in a 96+ car would increase in neg camber but also lose caster. I guess that would make the car a little more "twitchy" on the highway but make the turn in a bit quicker on the track. The only real downside of using either stock bearing is the lack of camber adjustability. I remember my car originally had a pretty large difference of between the left and right side (but still barely within spec). - Bob -----Original Message----- From: Chester Wong [mailto:chester_p_wong@yahoo.com] Sent: Tuesday, December 11, 2001 2:09 PM To: E36M3 Subject: RE: [E36M3] RE: Front strut bearing question Ground Control plates only work with coilovers. #10. beefy replacement dead pedal for M3's ? - from Dave Spragg

Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2001 23:29:35 -0500 From: "Dave Spragg" <dspragg@mediaone.net> Subject: beefy replacement dead pedal for M3's ? Not looking for a cover, a complete replacement. Who makes them and who has them? Post you answers right here on the board as I have heard more than one person gripe about the flexible plastic junk that comes with the wonderful E36 cars. I am looking for a more stout one I think... although the diamond plate floor pan with the left corener flipped up at the correct angle may be my dead pedal in this race car.
