Date: Mon, 17 Dec 2001 13:41:10 -0500 From: <Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net> Subject: Re: bump stops on bilsteins Well, I keep changing my mind from the Trackline setup with Konis to the Bilstein setup. Do I want to remove/trim bump stops, or do I want to cut the strut? A data point, I asked Turner Motor Sports whether they would trim the bump stops before shipping the units, and I was asked why. When I responded that there was quite a bit of reputation associated with the Bilsteins needing the bump stops trimmed. It was suggested that the email lists were rumor mills. I agreed that they could be, but that I have been following this one for a couple of years, and can't believe all these long time M3 owners can't be wrong. I asked whether they have ever had a problem, and I was told no (and this is in the pothole full Northeast). I asked whether they would trim the bump stops after the install, if there was a problem, but haven't received a response. Still questioning which way to go.... I've heard many other identical first hand reports. But maybe there are others with opposing experiences... For those With Biltstein struts: Has anyone here not trimmed the bump stops and found the car to have approximatly the same ride as stock? Has anyone here trimmed the bump stops and found that the ride quality did not change? If anyone can answer yes to either of these then which springs are you running? -Matt --- Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net wrote: > Date: Mon, 17 Dec 2001 13:41:10 -0500 > From: <Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net> > Subject: Re: bump stops on bilsteins > > Well, I keep changing my mind from the Trackline > setup with Konis to the > Bilstein setup. Given how often I adjust my adjustable camber plates (once, after installation, on an alignment rack), the extra money spent on height adjustments offered by a coil-over setups would be totally wasted in my case.
