It lasts longer, isn't corrosive, withstands both higher temperatures and works in a much wider range. Ran them 3 hours straight in a race, zero fade, used about 1/3 of the pad. These really are killer pads. I have used the Blues since I started driving hard on the track and as much as I like them, these are quite a bit better. We have a few sets of the old HT-8 compound which is very similar to the HT-10, we bought them in a closeout, will pass on the discount if anyone wants to try a set. #4. Fuel Tank Hose Clamps - from Ron Katona

Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2001 09:12:07 -0500 From: "Ron Katona" <rkatona@bellatlantic.net> Subject: Fuel Tank Hose Clamps I'm thinking about pulling up the rear seat and replacing those suspect fuel tank hose clamps on my 100,000+ mile '95 before a trip this weekend. For those who've replaced their clamps, about what size is the hose? I have a couple small hose clamps from the hardware store that would probably work on a hose of from 1/2" to 1-1/4". Is that about the right size, or do I need to buy some smaller clamps? Secondly, how many lines and clamps are there to replace back there... one, two? Thanks! -- Ron Katona

Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2001 10:45:11 -0500 From: "Olin, Jason (NIMH)" <jolin@mail.nih.gov> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Speeding Tickets in CA Juan, I've gotten stopped twice and ticketed once. The ticket was on the 110 Pasadena Freeway-going ~ 83mph (speed is 55pmh) a little after midnight. The cop was behind me in a Crown Victoria. Being a moron, I thought it was a Tempo-so as soon as there was an opening on the road, I took off! He was so baffled, saying "You were doing just fine there, what happened??" He couldn't understand why any person would be so stupid as to fly away from a cop at night...The car was < 30 days old then and didn't have plates. The officer was nice, and I didn't do anything special that they teach you in traffic school. I went to traffic school and that was that. The warning occurred driving back from Yosemite on Route 99. I was going 75mph in a 70mph zone. I was being more vigilant. I had noticed a car getting on the ramp as I was zooming by. I coasted down to 70 and he pulled me over. He took all the paperwork and I waited for 5 minutes. He came back and gave me a warning and that was that. In this case, I was immediately apologetic, fessed up to speeding at 75mph and admitted my being careless. He was friendly, too. Police definitely are fickle in California. I am embarrassed to admit it, but I used to drive a Red '87 Isuzu Impulse Turbo. I was driving with 4 cars on route 5 in the central valley going ~105-110mph. It was mid day and I was the second car from the rear. A cop came up from behind and systematically came up to each car and yelled over his megaphone- SLOW DOWN!! Then he turned around and left us. We all were bathed in cold sweat, let me tell you... Jason Olin '97 Cosmos Black M3 2-door

#7. RE: [E36M3] Speeding Tickets - from Ron Buchalski

Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2001 15:49:56 From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Speeding Tickets We once had a police officer on this list, so perhaps he could add some insight (if he's still here)... Just to add to the discussion (not pointing comments at anyone)... There are many possible reasons why an officer would be more inclined to write a ticket versus give a warning. It's up to his discretion to even pull you over, so there must some trigger. Some possibilities for why one could get pulled over (in no specific order): - Justified traffic violation (you were speeding more than others were) - Meet the ticket quota (sure, they don't have quotas...) - Racial profiling (all those 'x' people are guilty of 'y') - Status profiling (20 yr old driving an M3, pulled over by a 40 yr old cop who owns a Hyundai) - Car profiling (you have a bright red sports car, you're gonna speed) - DUI check - APB - Tailgating HIM (I see it at least once per month. In fact, I saw it happen again this morning) I was once pulled over for passing a cop. He was driving in the left lane, doing 67 in a 65. I nudged past him, hitting 72 on some downhill sections. He pulled me over, said I was exceeding the speed limit ('paced me going 72 in a 65'), and asked me why I felt that I should pass him. I told him that I drive to work on this road EVERY DAY, and I was driving at the speed that I drive on this road EVERY DAY. He gave me a warning for exceeding the speed limit, and gave me a ticket for having no front license plate. It probably helps that I was driving a black 525iT, and I'm 42 years old. They're not so nice when I'm driving my M3... There's another cop (Officer Bloomquist) who works the I-70 corridor between Frederick, MD and Ellicott City, MD. He sits in the median, and watches for passing MD cars that have no front license plate, and chases them down to issue a ticket. Even if they're driving in a safe manner, at the speed limit. So, while he has someone pulled over, he'll miss 8-10 boneheads who change lanes without signalling, drive in an unsafe manner, follow too closely, fail to yield the left lane to faster cars, etc. So, obviously, his intention is not to make the roads safer. More likely, he wants to insure that all MD cars have their front plates so his co-workers can more effectively use their new LIDAR units. A co-worker was nailed twice over the summer by this guy. -rb >Date: Tue, 18 Dec 2001 17:18:18 -0800 >From: Juan Rico <juan_rico@captionsinc.com> >Subject: RE: [E36M3] Speeding Tickets > >Actually, no offense at all. You still do, I am a Police Officer. > - Justified traffic violation (you were speeding more than others were) This is a no-brainer, If I pull you over, that means I have probable cause to believe that you have committed a traffic or equipment violation. Any other reason is illegal. > - Meet the ticket quota (sure, they don't have quotas...) Really, I have no ticket quota. I can write one or one million, it makes no difference. Passing a cop while speeding is not smart. More likely than not, the cop will be speeding. If you pass him you must really be speeding. Most officers have a "buffer" of 10 mph or so that they will not stop an otherwise safe driver for speeding. If you pass him, you are exceeding that buffer. I hate when the cop goes 40 in a 55 and no one passes him. For me radar detectors are easy. If you have one, you will get the traffic violation I syopped you for. And then you will be arrested. Radar detectors are illegal in my jurisdiction. Try this for me, anyone who doubts about a radar detector being more likely to get a ticket or not. Ask some state troopers, see what they say. Almost all will defenietly ticket someone with an obvious detector. And front plates have no bearing on LIDAR. They make no difference. he just wants an easy ticket that someone cannot argue in court. For example, is x-band used at all anymore? I'm clearly not in your area, as radar detectors are legal here in TX, but I've yet to come across X-band radar. Further, is there a trend toward replacing K and Ka with laser? Thanks, Jeff 97 M3/4, reserving 120 mph for the track

I hate >when the cop goes 40 in a 55 and no one passes him. What about pacing a cop who is speeding. Say the cop is doing 75 in a 65 and you pace him either front or back. Can he pull you over? I say this because in the DMV books here in California it says that no one, including officials, are allowed to speed unless they have their emergency lights on. (I forgot the name of the book, but it was the one with all the vehicle codes, i.e. bumper heights, number of lights on a car, type of lights ect.) So one could argue that since no one is allowed to speed w/o emergency lights on that my speedometer reading must be off. steve
