Hatrak II" <rob@hatrak.com> Subject: E36 M3 brake calipers Does anyone have an extra set of front and rear E36 M3 brake calipers, etc. that they would want to get rid of? I'm thinking about having mine powder-coated black but I don't want the car to be down that long. Thanks, Rob

Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2001 14:21:08 -0800 From: Peter Fanning <p.fanning@verizon.net> Subject: R&R rear trailing arm bushing? For those of you that have done this procedure, how long did the job take you? I'm not really comfortable doing it myself but a local (Seattle) shop wants to charge 6 hours of labor. Sounds high. Any recommendations for a Seattle area shop? TIA, Peter Fanning '98 M3/4

#4. Speeding and tickets: Rant - from Davis, Jake A
Top
Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2001 16:26:40 -0600 From: "Davis, Jake A" <Jake.Davis@SW.Boeing.com> Subject: Speeding and tickets: Rant <<I was at 80 for maybe 5 secondsand then a car got on the freeway and headed right for my lane. no signals, no pausing between lanes, nothing. Just drove over right in front of me, going maybe 10mph less than me. >> And the officer didn't bother to stop this guy???....who is much more likely to cause an accident a blind no signaling lane changer or an attentive driver at 15 or even 20 mph over the limit? Sorry, that's my big complaint. Studies (yeah, I know, lies, damn lies and statistics) show an almost inverse relationship between primary accident causative factors (note primary....not the old speed was a contributing factor dodge) and tickets issued for traffic violations. Traffic tickets really aren't about safety, they're about revenue enhancement and PR. What's one of the leading causes of traffic accidents (and injuries) in most medium to large cities...running red lights. Even though my local suburb has been doing a bit more to curb this truly dangerous practice, why don't law enforcement agencies pursue this with the same vigor as simple speeding. Because it doesn't offer the effort-to-economic rewards ratio that speeding tickets do. How about blind lane changes and turns with no signal? There's another significant cause factor. Heck, I'm pretty sure that in Dallas, turn signals are optional equipment even on 100+ MBs (I know they're optional on SUVs). Failure to signal lane change or turn is just as illegal as speeding, but I don't believe I've ever seen an officer nail somebody for it. Here in the good ol' DFW metromess, they lowered the speed limits on many suburban and semi-rural expressways as part of an agreement with the Feds to 'lower air pollution'. Has this slowed the actual speed of traffic? NO Did the folks who did this deal really think it would have any effect outside of the theoretical studies world? Yep, it increased the number of tickets handed out daily on expressways like the George Bush Tollway, which opened with a 65 mph limit, but suddenly is unsafe (or at least illegal) at anything over 55. Ah, but there's always a cushion before the officer hands out a ticket, you say. Well, what's that cushion? Is it 5 mph, 10 mph or 20 mph? Depends...you sure won't get an official answer from anyone. I guess it kinda makes the officer judge and jury doesn't it... 5 mph over is legal, 12 mph over isn't? If we're serious about 'reducing air pollution' and reducing waste of natural resources (gas), then how about a tire inflation law, complete with roadside checks. Don't remember the statistic exactly, but it's around 2 in 5 cars have seriously underinflated tires (that's compared against manufacturer's recommendation, so even the Explorer drivers with 24 psi don't get counted as underinflated). Way back in the days of the National 55 mph speed limit, the same folks that came up with the 55 figured out that if everybody kept their tires properly inflated, we'd save as much gas as was saved with 55. Sorry for the rant....just one of those days. Jake

#5. Rotator cuff injury - from Chester Wong

Guess how I got it? Trying to break loose personally hand torqued by the owner, lug bolts two years ago. Seems nothing good came out of that whole ordeal. So....any advice? Doctor recommendations in the Tri-State area? I'm guessing an MRI is coming my way. Probably orthoscopic surgery will follow as well =( Any info would be greatly appreciated. #10. RE: [E36M3] Speeding Tickets - from Matt Henson

Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2001 19:35:42 -0800 (PST) From: Matt Henson <hensonator@yahoo.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Speeding Tickets Hey Alex.. I didn't say that people with RADAR detectors don't speed.. I said everyone does and the presence of a detector doesn't indicate neceaasrily indicate that they do it to a worse degree than someone else who got nailed. The point here is that the rules that cops have to follow are pretty weak. But the courts are bound by a stronger level of proof. If we were talking about a "real" crime then this type of circumstantial evidance wouldn't hold water. I don't really equate having a detector to being an a-hole. For a lot of people the speed limits are set too low so to drive safely one is forced to exceed the posted limit. I think that can all agree that the real danger is driving much faster or much slower than the surrounding traffic. Anyway, a lot of local governments take advantage of the artifically low limits to make money. So a RADAR detector might be viewed as insurance against being randomly selected to make a donation. When the speed limits are set fairly then we can start talking about moderate speeding as a real violation. And on that note, I think we're drifting away from the appropriate topic so if anyone wants to reply, please do so privatly.. -Matt --- alex.fadeev@verizon.com wrote: > Date: Wed, 19 Dec 2001 14:52:55 -0600 > From: alex.fadeev@verizon.com > Subject: RE: [E36M3] Speeding Tickets >> Matt Henson <hensonator@yahoo.com> wrote: > > I don't think that anyone is arguing that having a > > detector won't increase the chances of getting a > > ticket when pulled over.
