#1. lighted shift knob in my 95 - from Reid Conti

Date: Mon, 24 Dec 2001 19:13:52 -0800 (PST) From: Reid Conti <reid@conti.net> Subject: lighted shift knob in my 95 Howdy.. I had always heard that you have to "tap into" some wiring to install a lighted shift knob (although I know it was an option on 98+ cars).. Anyway, I got my very own lighted shift knob, and am wondering how to install it in my 95. Interestingly enough, it seems to have a "pass-through" connector where it looks like you can just wire the knob right into the middle of any already-used connector that has the same shape.. I'm just not sure if there are any connectors that have this shape :) Anybody know? thanks :) - reid

You run the wiring harness under the steering column, over to the shifter. Hope that helps & Happy Holidays! Jim Bassett

#3. shock/strut debate - from Jay
Top
Date: Wed, 26 Dec 2001 17:31:34 -0800 From: jay@pactitle.com (Jay) Subject: shock/strut debate This is an old and tired thread. But I'm still looking for advise. I have a folder of all the really important things I've picked up from this group. But I still can't make up my mind about bilsteins or konis. Can anyone who knows and cares please e-mail me personally. I don't want to waste the groups time over this again. I see benifits in both. The bumpstops on the bilsteins still puzzle me, why the manufacture or supplier would not agree that you should trim them. And what exactly does "trim them" entail. I'm not really interested in the full boat coil over system. The suspension is pretty good know and a better one would only beg me to go deeper into the canyon turns, that I occasionally travel at to high of a speed now. Its just time for new shocks and mounts, and do I ask for e46 shock mounts or get some turner reinforced version. Questions questions..... Any help has always been appreciated. #4. FS: 5 17x8 Momo Sport rims - from Shelhart2@aol.com

Date: Wed, 26 Dec 2001 21:31:54 EST From: Shelhart2@aol.com Subject: FS: 5 17x8 Momo Sport rims These are 6 months old and were purchased new at $400 each. They have Toyo Proxes mounted that have 25% on rear and 50% front treadwear left (I can measure tread depth if necessary). The rims are hubcentric. I've has a slight shimmy I noticed in the steering wheel and had it balanced with the latest Hunter machine. The tech said one of the tires was slightly out but rims are straight. Rims are straight and true and in exceptional condition. I'm not a fan of the Toyos. Only one has slight curb rash. I've had many compliments on the rims but am partial to BBS. Frankly, I want a change. I need a minimum of $1,000 + shipping or I'll save for a spare set. A pic is attached. I'd be happy to send detailed pictures. Shel Hart 1998 M3 Orlando, Florida

#6. Airbag removal & Idiot Light Solution - from VT

Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 08:33:20 -0800 (PST) From: VT <fstbmwm3@yahoo.com> Subject: Airbag removal & Idiot Light Solution After some great help from other members, I removed the front driver and passenger airbags. Damn both airbags must weight more than 12lbs ! I will post the procedure on my site with pics after the Holidays. Generally its all about removing the steering wheel cover with a Torx no. 27 screwdriver (the wrench bit will not fit into the deep screw opening) and removing the glove box in order to access the pass. airbag. HOW TO AVOID THE AIRBAG IDIOT LIGHT : Lift the rear seat bottom. In the middle you will see a sensor metal box (smaller than a pack of cigarettes). Disconnect the battery plugs and wait 1 minute. Remove the round ground wire that grounds the sensor box. Insulate well with electrical tape. Remove the wire bracket attached to the box. Remove the box and store it. Shove the insulated ground and connector under the carpet. Put seat bottom back. You're done ! No stupid idiot lights and no invasive console procedures. Clean, easy and fully reversible ! #7. Can you retrofit a Digital Climate Control to a '95 M3? - from Wesley A. Nicolas

Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 16:24:42 -0500 From: "Wesley A. Nicolas" <wes@nicolas.org> Subject: Can you retrofit a Digital Climate Control to a '95 M3? Hey all - Just wondering if anybody out there has retrofitted a digital climate control device (96+ M3's) to replace the mechanical (i.e. manual) climate control in a 95 M3? Any experiences, tips, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Wes '95 M3

Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 18:16:04 EST From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Can you retrofit a Digital Climate Control to a '95 M3? My question would be why? I actually like my analog (i.e., rotary) climate control in my '95. But I admit, I drooled over it when it came out with the '96 M3. However, I have heard numerous complaints re: the Digital HVAC. It can have a mind of its own. For example, the fan defaults to AUTO mode on start up. Right? It can start blowing nearly full force whenever you start up in cold or hot weather in an attempt to heat/cool down the passenger compartment. I like having total control <g>. When I turn the fan on LOW, I want it on LOW. Sometimes a computer doesn't know what I want. As for actually retrofitting it? Oh boy. I bet you are looking at $3-4k in parts and labor. You will probably need a new computer controller as well as the head units. Then you have the labor of ripping the dash out. It is not going to be cheap or easy. Good luck. Glad to see a '95 M3 still on the road. Lowell Seaton '95 M3 Dallas, Texas

I like the way the digital unit operates, however I can understand the simplicity and reliability of the manual climate control system. >I bet you are looking at $3-4k in parts and labor... Mmm, I found a digital climate control unit for $250, but my main question was...is it plug and play? Or will I have to get a bunch of ducting and add sensors. Thanks much, Wes '95 M3 (113,000 miles and still running strong!)
