I remember locating an aftermarket mirror, but it was convex clip-on, having an outer countour matching our stock mirror. It was around $50, but for an extra $20, I decided I'd be better off with the OE part. BTW, why do you want the passenger side mirror? I thought the only diff b/t US and euro were the 'words' printed on the US mirror. Does anyone know if a 325/328/318 subframe is the same as our S50 m3s? No it's not. The 318/325/328 all use 31 11 1 096 485. The M3 (both 3.0 and 3.2) uses 31 11 2 229 040. > Are they interchangeable? Don't know, but it doesn't matter for you since you surely wouldn't want to downgrade to a non-M version. Neil 96 M3

#3. Ultimate Trunk Tool Box for E36M3 - from Peter Guagenti
Top
Date: Fri, 28 Dec 2001 12:34:35 -0800 From: Peter Guagenti <peter@guagenti.com> Subject: Ultimate Trunk Tool Box for E36M3 I'm looking to build a small toolbox to haul around in my trunk to track events, etc, and I'm looking for advice for tools to carry in it. The ability to work on _absolutely everything_ is not what I'm looking for (that's why I have a garage), but the tools to work on the most common items would be great. What I have so far: - 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, 16mm, 17mm sockets and wrenches - breaker bar - ratchet - 7mm hex socket (for brakes) Anything else? I already carry some water-wetter, oil, etc. Are there other things to consider? Any input is appreciated. I'll post the list after I've accumulated everyone's advice. Thanks. -p

FYI, I recently had my digital control replaced under warranty (bad soldier joint) and I found out that there is a newer firmware that eliminates the wackiness I had in my old unit. It used to act like it was on automatic whether or not the automatic switch was actually pressed. The new unit eliminates all of this. I have no idea if you can get your old one updated. I do know that the digital control unit had a rebuild sticker on it so I assume there is some way to reprogram them. -Justin -- '76 02 (Whimsical) '97 M3 (Orion) BMW CCA#77056 check out http://users.vei.net/jgerry

Some things to consider: - extra set of belts - water or coolant (water is probably better) - t-hooks and tie-down straps (Bob Stommel wrote about these...they're part number 3309048 at http://www.northerntool.com) ...better to use these and the intended tie down points) Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? You really only need the driver's side to be like the euro cars. The only thing special about the passenger side is that it doesn't have the "Objects are closer then they appear.." scripting. #7. catalytic converter - resonator - from Paul Elliott

Date: Fri, 28 Dec 2001 16:12:02 -0500 From: "Paul Elliott" <pelliott@rcn.com> Subject: catalytic converter - resonator Matt, Thank you for your comments. >>If you are making 11-12PSI at 6500RPM then you'll get about 1.5-1.75psi at 2500. << I dont think I made myself clear. When I hear this quiet noise (oxymoron?!), I am making zero boost, I assure...The boost needle hasnt even started to budge...Its not a boost related issue..As a matter of fact, when I step on the gas harder, so as to create slight boost, the noise disappears...IT only occurs between 2K and 3K, when stepping *very lightly on the gas*, and goes away when I step harder. To get it back, I have to lighten up on the gas again! >>There's not much that you can do to fix the problem except go back to the other pully or change the ignition or fuel maps<< No..It did it before as well! I think it may be the timing chain I'm hearing...Also, there's no timing being pulled when this occurs, so I'm almost positve its not knock related. >>Or stay off full throttle when its pinging.<< It stops when I either give it less gas, or more...It only occurs during light throttle with no boost. --------------------------------------------------------- Paul Elliott '99 White M3; < 40K miles; Dinan stage II SC kit with 6" RMS crank pulley: 11 psi; AA Water Injection; Rotex pads;X-Brace; Stygar SS and Clutch Stop; Sound by Polk, Excelon, JLAudio

A bottle of this stuff, plus a complete fill of plain water, is actually better than regular coolant. -p

Is > this a painful task? Oh yah. It's not too difficult. Well, are you doing this as an emergency repair? If so, are you able to crawl underneath the car? If so, you have to be able to remove the undertray and you'll need a 8mm socket with appropriate ratchet to get enough leverage to relieve the tensioners. Or...you can always get the appropriate sized open ended wrench (either BMW or bicycle shop) and turn off the fan clutch to gain access from the top. You'll also need a small flat head screwdriver to pry off the covers of the tensioners. Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yup...and after having both sides for a while, I kinda like not having the lettering =) Of course, the "free" one came from coordinating the group purchase a while ago and getting all the $5 referrals from paypal...thanks guys! =) Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
