Date: Tue, 1 Jan 2002 09:36:50 -0500 From: "Paul Elliott" <pelliott@rcn.com> Subject: Fading M3 trunk badge stripe Has anybody noticed that their '99 M3's ( and possibly other years) rear trunk M3 badge has a faded red stripe? Mine's kind of coral or lt pink in color, and I've read there is a recall/swap available from bMW on this known defect. Id be content if I could just purchase the 3 color stripe adhesive block to replace my current one on my crome badge...But all I can find is the Bavarian Autosport complete badge, which costs $29. Id like to buy just the adhesive 3 color stripe.. Does anybody know where I might find this, other than on another M3? :--) --------------------------------------------------------- Paul Elliott '99 White M3; < 40K miles; Dinan stage II SC kit with 6" RMS crank pulley: 11 psi; AA Water Injection; Rotex pads;X-Brace; Stygar SS and Clutch Stop; Sound by Polk, Excelon, JLAudio

Mine's kind of coral or lt pink in > color, and I've read there is a recall/swap available from bMW on this known > defect. Yeah...mine looks like crap too. Not sure about the recall, though. Ron Stygar pointed out that most emblems on E36s were placed crookedly. Yep...mine is crooked too. =( ...and your's is probably as well...lol. > Id be content if I could just purchase the 3 color stripe adhesive block to > replace my current one on my crome badge...But all I can find is the > Bavarian Autosport complete badge, which costs $29. Id like to buy just the > adhesive 3 color stripe.. Unfortunately, the stripes are not available separately...you have to buy the complete "///M" part. Cheapest I can get them is for $23 each. Then if you want to fix the crooked part about it, you have to get the "3"...and that's an additional $7. D'oh! The E46M3 trunk badge is much cheaper (comes with the ///M and 3 together), but the red is kinda a muddy, earth red...I don't like that. The E46M3 and E39M5 engine badge has the nice, vibrant colors, but it's shorter than any "3" out there...and it has the curvature, but not the same as the trunk badge. Double D'oh! I might just take the darn thing off...seems Joe Schmoe loves to tailgate and race cars with "///M" anything on it. Take it off, and they don't know the difference. Happy New Year to all!
