Date: Thu, 3 Jan 2002 23:29:46 EST From: DrDan976@aol.com Subject: FS: Front and Rear Mov'it Brake Kit!!! Used of course, for about a year (12,000 miles) off a 97 M3 and will fit 96-99 M3's. 322x32mm Front Kit - includes modified Porsche 993 front turbo calipers ("big red"), 2pc rotors with 7075 aluminum hats, factory pads, adapter brackets, custom Movit hardware (gr12.9 and gr10.9), Fischer stainless steel brake lines front & rear (front lines use banjo fittings with hollow bolts). The kit come with Porsche 993 "big red" calipers, 2 piece cast drilled rotors with aluminum hats 322x32mm, movit brackets, hardware, stainless steel lines, and a set of pads 50% pad left. Boxster S/996 monoblock rear calipers (red or black), 1pc rotors with adapter sleeves (drilled for BMW bolt patterns), factory pads, adapter brackets, hardware (gr12.9 and gr10.9), Fischer rear lines with banjo fittings. They rotors are about 12,000 miles old and is just beginning to show a groove. There is still a lot of rotor left though. The rotor face has a bit of surface rust, but as you know these are made of steel and will come off immediately when you drive the car. The pads are about 50% left. I am the second owner of these kits, I decided to sell this kit to pay for some bills and have never installed them on my car. There is nothing wrong with this kit besides some cosmetic paint chips and wear and tear marks. This is the real Mov'it kit. The reason why it is so reasonable is because there are paint chips and scuffs on the calipers, but the brakes are fully usable and will stop you on a dime. Retails for $2,795 with Porsche scripting for the front kit and $2495 for the rear kit. ($5290) You can not purchase the rear kit from Movit, unless you purchased the front kit. Shipping is over 100lbs. Picture are available by request $3000+ shipping Dan Wang 95 M3 Santa Ana, CA 92705

#2. Positioning the AA Gen III Exhaust - from The Buch
Top
Date: Thu, 03 Jan 2002 22:20:50 -0800 From: The Buch <the_buch@telus.net> Subject: Positioning the AA Gen III Exhaust The word from my installer was that "he was worried about how close the new exhaust was to the sway bar (on the hoist) and the spare tire well, so he did the best he could to adjust the positioning of the exhaust accordingly". Now I am getting a light 'clunk' on some bumps in some cornering situations. The exhaust has been set slightly off centre to the outboard side of the valence gap, but I can't tell if it's hitting the valence, the tire well or something else. Anyone able to offer suggestions, or have a similar experience (and fix)? Much appreciated! Regards, Doug

#3. Rear Subwoofer - from Jason Leung

Date: Fri, 04 Jan 2002 01:00:18 -0600 From: Jason Leung <jhleung@earthlink.net> Subject: Rear Subwoofer Greetings listers: Anybody know what is a good low profile integrated subwoofer/amp solution that I can fit in my e36 4 dr? I currently have a kenwood self powered tube. I *think* it is a 10" tube but it takes up too much room as it cannot fit under the rear shock tower brace. Actually I don't know if the rear shock tower brace actually does anything worthwhile but hey, it was free, so what the hey. I was thinking maybe that Infinity Basslink perhaps? Open to all suggestions except the JL audio Stealthboxes...I'd rather not eliminate the rear speakers. Thanks Jason Leung '92 332i and FINALLY (after 4 months) getting around to repairing a seriously destroyed center bearing in the driveshaft that allowed the driveshaft to bounce around in the driveshaft tunnel. That and the rear lateral control arms that were bent for no apparent reason!! Both were bent almost a mirror image of each other!! Torque maybe? I dunno. Needless to say I drove it for the first time in almost 5 months the other day trying to diagnose the horrible growling noise and was relieved to discover that the driveshaft's center bearing was gone and that it wasn't the motor....

#7. shot shocks - from Joseph Bachman III

Date: Fri, 04 Jan 2002 15:06:01 +0000 From: "Joseph Bachman III" <josephbachman@hotmail.com> Subject: shot shocks Hey gang - I think my shocks are shot in my '99 with 31k on it. Over the last couple of months I have noticed a definite degradation in ride quality on the less than smooth roads of Balitmore. So here's my question. Will BMW cover these under warranty? I would be willing to go with the OEM junkers again if it doesn't cost me anything. What are people's experiences with getting BMW to cover this? Thanks again gang. I am also very appreciative of those who clued me into the dental floss trick for badge removal. Worked like a charm. Date: Fri, 4 Jan 2002 09:09:16 -0600 From: "Darling Christopher Maj AMC/CEXR" <Christopher.Darling@scott.af.mil> Subject: Freeway FOD (Was: Bumper Slats p/n) Chris, exact same thing happened to me over Thanksgiving. Middle of the night on the interstate, I never had a chance . . . Took the blow on the right corner, so no damage to the center grill. However, my inspection found the passenger foglight dangling from its wire outside the bumper. The foglight mounting bracket was completely broken, AND the light itself was unusable too. It would still light up, but the plastic "catch" that the mounting bracket hooks to was broken. Replaced everything myself, but it still cost $100 in parts. Sorry, but I don't have the part numbers handy. Let me know if you have any problems--procedure was relatively straightforward, but I had to disassemble more stuff than I thought behind the airdam to be able to access the necessary screws to replace the bracket. Good luck, Cod Major Chris Darling HQ AMC/CEXR DSN 779-0698, Comm (618) 229-0698 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 2 Jan 2002 11:34:06 -0800 (PST) From: Chris Huff <huffgroup@yahoo.com> Subject: Bumper Slats p/n Hi all. Hope everyone had a happy holiday season. About a week ago, I was going down the interstate and a retread from an 18 wheeler flew up in front of me. I didn't have time to slow down, and I didn't want to swerve, so it hit the front of my car. Anyway, it destroyed the slats on my '95 Hellrot M3 and took out the mounting bracket on the driver foglight. So, my questions are: Does anyone have the part number for the slats, and I assume I have to get them painted to match? What is the p/n for the mounting bracket for the foglight. Thanks for your help. Chris p.s. YES, I do want to put slats back in.

Good luck trying to get a dealer to replace those under warranty. They might even be considered a wear item. Unless they have a shock dyno or are willing to take them off and try pushing them by hand, they'll tell you that they're still good. The typical push down on the bumper and see if the car oscillates a few times does not work on our cars because the springs are stiffer than a Lincoln towncar ;) Pony up for Koni strut inserts and rear shocks and I guarantee you'll be happy. Fronts are about $160 each and rears are about $110 each. Better quality seals than OE Boge shocks...they'll last you a long time....plus you get a lifetime warranty.
