#1. shot shocks - from Paul Elliott

Date: Wed, 9 Jan 2002 22:26:39 -0500 From: "Paul Elliott" <pelliott@rcn.com> Subject: shot shocks Peter, >>A new take on an old them: if it's workign well, don't fix it<< Quite honestly, I like the way my '99 M3 with 36K miles handles, and I like the way the suspension feels. The x brace helped alot, and I dont have an abiding need for more stiffness, although I wouldnt mind it...What I dont want is an ultra stiff ride. As I said the stock me feels pretty damn good to me. So, are you suggesting we replace our shocks with stock Boges? I might consider it, if they didnt notoriously wear out so damn fast! It seems most folks like the Konis...But remember, even though I have 400 crank HP, doesnt mean I race the car...fAct is, this car is a commuter special...I make the most of it on the road, but its still a commuter. I like it to handle well, but it also has to be comfortable. ie, the stock M3... So, given this, and given that the stock ones seem to wear out within 30k or 50k miles, do you still recommend stock replacements? Konis? How about the Sachs Sport? I havent heard much about them, but how do they rank in terms of the others for my type of driving? Thanks again. --------------------------------------------------------- Paul Elliott '99 White M3; < 40K miles; Dinan stage II SC kit with 6" RMS crank pulley: 11 psi; AA Water Injection; Rotex pads;X-Brace; Stygar SS and Clutch Stop; Sound by Polk, Excelon, JLAudio

I am not saying others would not notice, but you said it best when you said the "dealer never said boo about the worn t/a bushings." I too am lucky enough to have my cars inspected and sometimes maintained by an independent, a bimmerhead, sometimes a mechanical engineer, a race car maintainer/rebuilder and he knows our cars inside and out. Hell, he writes repair manuals for that matter, engineers new prototype bell housings for 6-speed implants into BMWs that never came with 6 speeds, builds differentials, builds engines, raises garages ;-), etc. Best regards, Rich 95 M3 89 325is Both maintained and inspected regularly by Brett Anderson (www.koalamotorsport.com)

#3. Coolant Leak... - from morris.michael@adlittle.com

Date: Thu, 10 Jan 2002 08:58:39 -0500 From: morris.michael@adlittle.com Subject: Coolant Leak... Hello List, I recently swapped my water pump, thermostat, and housing, and now I have acquired a slow coolant leak. About once/week I get a "coolant level low" message, and I add about 1/2 quart of coolant. I would like to bring my car to a mechanic and test the coolant system with a pressure tester. Does anyone know the specified pressure values to pressurized the coolant system to? Also, what are some areas that frequently fail? Radiator neck?-does this fail as in "break off" or will it fatigue and fail with a slow leak (esp. under pressure)? Radiator Cap?--How much is a replacement. Just trying to get a leg up on things before I take stuff apart and have no car. Thanks everyone. #5. Should I put on H&R Sports or Euro Springs - from Wesley A. Nicolas

Date: Thu, 10 Jan 2002 12:23:47 -0500 From: "Wesley A. Nicolas" <wes@nicolas.org> Subject: Should I put on H&R Sports or Euro Springs Hey all - After reading all the posts in the last month or so (and doing some of my own research), I am still undecided about what to do to my suspension on my 1995 M3. My setup - Bilstein Sports + Stock springs My goal - better handling but not too harsh because I drive through Wash. D.C. every day. Here's what I've learned (from unofficialbmw.com): Spring Front Rate Rear Rate ------------------------------------------------------------ Stock Springs ~115 lbs 335 lbs H&R Sports 200 lbs, 1.5" drop 380 lbs, 1" drop Euro (or LTW)M3 ??? lbs, ???lbs What I would like to know is, will the H&R sports give me a really rough ride compared to the stock springs with Bilstein sports? Are the Euro (or LTW...same thing?) worth going to? I have heard conflicting stories about the Euro springs and am trying to figure out what the deal is. On a side note, just ordered a full set of Powerflex bushings from SPA Technique! Thanks, Wes '95 M3

#6. Brake Bleeding - from Tom Tice

Date: Thu, 10 Jan 2002 12:55:56 -0500 From: "Tom Tice" <tetice@triad.rr.com> Subject: Brake Bleeding Does anyone on this list use the speedbleeder nipples in conjunction with a pressure bleeding system (a la Jim Powell a la snap-on). I am concerned that the pressure bleeding system will not safely operate with a high enough pressure to overcome the spring tension in the bleed valves. Otherwise they look quite useful especially for a quick touch up bleed at the track without removing wheels.
