I feel like in transitions the rear end is light and floaty. I always expect oversteer but you are right it always catches itself. I would contribute the car catching itself to the superior rear suspension setup on the car. I would not say it is because of the H&R kit. IF you think back the stock suspension did the same thing. To me that is how amazing the E36 chassis is. My next step however is to experiment with some different springs in the rear. I called H&R and they referred me to Turner for some different springs in the rear. I want something that is matched for the shocks and the front setup though. If it is stiffer then that is fine too. But I think a linear rate spring in the rear is the trick. But then again I really like the way a linear spring feels over a progressive spring. Don't know how streetable most people would think this is. But I like it. Interesting observations. I've noticed that with the H&R c/o's, the rear end gets a bit 'floaty', particularly in fast R-L or L-R transitions when you want the car to get back to neutral before turn-in, and when nailing some mid-corner bumps. An unsettling feeling, but it always seems to catch itself and settle down. At first I mistook the sensation for oversteer tendencies. But now, I've just gotten used to it. I'm on my way to 'trusting' the car again, that it won't swap ends. I wonder if a more aggressive rear spring would help? Seth, did you experiment with different springs? It really made a difference in the way the car feels. It is much more settled and turn-in has been sharpened. The increased spring rate and linear springs really didn't effect the ride but it really dialed the kit in. It also allow me to run the car a bit lower and that might have helped the overall balance in transitions a bit. Let me know if you have any specific questions offline... Rob

Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2002 22:43:03 -0800 From: "Kit Wetzler" <kitwetzler@mindspring.com> Subject: tensioner just as an FYI... I installed a new timing chain tensioner on my 97 m3/4 today. Trying to get rid of a weird sound between 2000-3000 rpm when accelerating... (it's there but much quieter on decel) anyway, I was pushing the plunger up and down... I let go and the whole thing popped apart! doh! guess that little snap ring doesn't hold stuff together real well. and it's a bear to get back together. just be careful. -kit

#6. Brake pedal travel slush? - from Jeremy Lucas

Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2002 07:20:07 -0500 From: "Jeremy Lucas" <jlucas@columbus.rr.com> Subject: Brake pedal travel slush? I've been driving another car for the past couple of weeks with the crappy weather and all, so when I got back in my M3 yesterday I was surprised at the amount of brake pedal travel where nothing really happens (compared to the other car). Basically my brake pedal has to be depressed even with the (un-depressed) accelerator pedal before braking starts effectively. You can feel slight dragging friction before that but not effective braking. I can't remember if it was like that before or not since it's been a couple of weeks. Anybody else notice what their pedal movement is like? Similar? Hard ABS provoking stops are no problem, so there is plenty of effectiveness, just the beginning travel seems large. Anybody else? FWIW, my brakes were bleed 2-3 months ago when I replaced a caliper piston seal. Jeremy Lucas 1995 M3

These are easier worn out than gearbox gears, but I dont know if the are replaceable or you have to buy a complete gearbox $$$. Worn out syncros occur after but misshifts with lots of grinding.
