I would think that you'd have a code stored though if that was the case with your's (since it's OBDII). FWIW, when my car started to feel this way as I began experimenting with C/Os, I went to a lower rate rear spring (400# linear) and replaced most of the rear suspension bushings. Problem solved - the rear is absolutely planted. -- Ron Katona

They all do that. ;-) Seriously, it's gear rattle; a result of the LTW flywheel. When I hear this noise I feel that the motor is being "lugged." I downshift or let off the gas a bit. -- Ron Katona

#7. 235 40 17's on all 4's? - from Shelhart2@aol.com

Date: Sat, 19 Jan 2002 10:53:07 EST From: Shelhart2@aol.com Subject: 235 40 17's on all 4's? I just purchased a set of new BBS RC's 17x8. James Sofronas was able to beat tire rack and was a pleasure to deal with. What is the consensus on running 235 40 17's on all 4? I don't want spacers or fender rollling, etc. Car is a daily driver and will see an occassional auto X. I'd like to balance ride, road noise and performance. Suggestions? TIA. Date: Sat, 19 Jan 2002 11:49:00 -0800 From: "Michael Kelley" <mkelley@nc.rr.com> Subject: Re: Chugging at 2000rpm when cold OK, now there are three of us on the list that have this problem, two 98's and a '95. I first posted in #1870 in December, updated in #1875 on Dec. 28th.......went back to the dealer on Jan 11th, the fuel pressure regulator was replaced and the throttle position sensor was "read with an ohm meter and is good" but the car STILL surges @2K when cold and I'm now like James......"what the hell is causing it!!". By the way, if I park the car and return in 30 minutes it will do it driving out through the parking lot as soon as I go into second, car and engine are still warm and at temp. It also happens in heavy traffic during my commute (when warm) as things slow down and I downshift into second or third and pace with traffic speed. I've now crossed over 50K miles so car is out of warranty for all but this problem and the dealer doesn't seemed inclined to spend a lot of time/effort trying to find the problem. I've also concluded that the this might be a mechanical problem but why can't I feel it in 1st, 4th, or 5th gear at @2k rpm??? Possible dual-mass flywheel problem? I'm intrigued by the mention of the flex-disk or guibo but I can't relate what I'm feeling my car do to a faulty rubber part in the driveshaft. This isn't a vibration problem, you feel it as the car very slightly oscillates between accelaration and coasting BUT it is more noticable when climbing a grade, slight or steep, so coasting is not quite the right thing to say. As I said in my first post "Any and all suggestions, wild-ass guesses, and humble opinions would really be appreciated." but please post to the list so that Colin, james, and any others can share.
