Date: Wed, 23 Jan 2002 01:53:47 EST From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Trimmin' the Bumpstops Funny you should mention trimming the bumpstops with Koni SA struts/shocks. There are no bumpstops on Koni SA. Koni does not supply them. So I would say you don't have to worry about trimming them. :) Now if you want to reuse the stock bumpstop from your old struts, it will fit on the shaft. I wonder how many people forget to transfer the bumpstop over? You have the H&R OE springs? The ones with the LEAST drop? Ahh.... flip a coin. I don't think it will make much difference. Probably either way will work. Personally, I'd cut it at the deep V groove. That would take off the top 3/4". The rear is simple. You can't use a bumpstop. The stock bumpstop won't fit. I have seen special bumpstops for the Koni but I wouldn't use them. If you do, you won't be able to adjust the rear shocks. You have to completely compress the rears to adjust them. Add a bumpstop prevents you from compressing the shocks. Lowell

Date: Wed, 23 Jan 2002 08:19:48 -0500 From: Steve Lilley <m3steve@earthlink.net> Subject: Re: DSC Button on E46 Hi Robert, Yes, you absolutely need to hold down the DSC button on current E46s for 3 seconds to disable all computer intervention. I'm not positive, but I believe this applies to other BMWs like the Z3 as well. On the E46, this change occurred sometime in 2001. I learned about this "feature" by accident: during the Suzan Koemen (sp?) Driving Experience, I took out a 5-speed 330i. Before leaving the dealer's lot, I hit the DSC button (just as I do everytime I get in my 2000 323i), but no matter how hard I pushed on those back roads, I couldn't get the rear to come around at all. It felt like the power was getting cut back every time I tried to hot-shoe around a turn. At the time, I concluded that the cars on the Driving Experience must have been "hard-wired" so DSC could not be disabled. About a month later on an E46 mailing list, I learned about the need to push-and-hold the DSC button on the newer E46s. Regards, Steve m3steve@earthlink.net Robert Exconde asked: > On Page 10 it describes that you need to hold the DSC button to disable > the DSC and ADB. I dont have a E46, but I find it quite curious I havent > heard of this on the E46. Is there any truth to this "dual stage" > disactivation?

We dont have the launch control so could one assume that the stage 6 turns both 'off' ? There has been only mention of the DSC turning off with the stage 6 program in place, but what about the 2nd half of the program? is that turned off as well? or do you have to hold it? There aren't a lot of people that know to hold the button down for 3 seconds to turn the whold system off ... May be someone with SMG could enlighten us? #9. Wing install help needed - from Richard Sperry

Date: Wed, 23 Jan 2002 09:35:48 -0500 From: "Richard Sperry" <richardsperry@home.com> Subject: Wing install help needed I got a wing for my 95 M3 and after reading the instructions, and looking at the car, I have a problem. The instructions state that you have to make sure that the screws holding the wing only go through one layer of metal. Well looking at the trunk and where the wing will mount, How's that gonna work? Do you have to remove the tool kit and liner to get some access? Drill through everything and then plug the lower hole? Anybody having some info, I would "really appreciate a lot" hearing from you. Before I have to go abase myself at the bodyshop. Thanks, Rich, ( with a wing and no clue)
