I just ordered up a bunch of the hi performance 10W40, as I ve always wanted to try Amsoil Ive always considered it to be in the same 'premium' catagory as Redline, and Mobil1 too. I have a hard time believing that the Redline is responsible for Vanos failures, but since we seem to be talking about branded oil issues, I was wondering how Amsoil fits with the Vanos equation. =20 Paul Elliott --------------------------------------------------------- '99 White M3; < 40K miles; Dinan stage II SC kit with 6" RMS crank pulley: 11 psi; AA Water Injection; Rotex pads;X-Brace; Dinan Koni Suspension; Stygar SS and Clutch Stop; Sound by Polk, Excelon, JLAudio

My vanos got noisy after using it and eventually had to be replaced... Not saying that Amsoil caused it... But Amsoil is a MLM (Multi Level Marketing) company just like AMWAY, EXCEL COMMUNICATIONS and all those other goddamn pyramid schemes out there. When I found that out I lost a lot of respect for them. I will never buy an Amsoil product again. I have yet to see any *REAL* evidence out there that says their stuff is better (other than their own tests). Besides it's too expensive. My solution? BMW Factory Synthetic (AKA Castrol Syntec). $4/quart and works great for me. I've burnt out my fair share of bulbs too, but I'm curious if we're not running them out of spec. A few of the bulbs failed by the solder melting off leaving a perfectly good glass piece, and perfectly good wires, but nothing connecting them together. It must be getting hot in there. How about rigging up some sort of heat sink? I don't want to make any holes, so how does one get heat out of the light? If I had a spare cap or two I might be interested in experimenting, but not with my only set. data point: I've got Narva bulbs in now and they seem to be lasting quite good. I think I've only blown 1 or 2 in the last 6 months. Jason

Date: Mon, 28 Jan 2002 18:22:00 -0800 From: Peter Fanning <p.fanning@verizon.net> Subject: Re: Check control message? These instructions almost got me there, thanks Andy. The simple check control / outside temp computer must be a little different. After pressing the 1000 and 10 buttons together I get a Funktion message and I'm able to enter a number. Once a function is selected use the set/res button to enter. Through trial and error I found the limited functions. There are fewer options in this computer than the full OBC. This is what I found: 0 = LED test 1 = Language: german, english, french, italian, spanish and american (guess american isn't english anymore, scary) 2 = 12 or 24 hour Clock 3 = mm.dd or dd.mm Date 4 = C or F Temp 5 = Quarz -0023 - I've no clue what this is, the -0023 must be data of some kind 6 = Status 000000a - Again, no clue what this is. Hope this helps someone else. I'm not sure what =20 is, probably a CR or LF in some character set. For instance, =A0:s are hard spaces in ISO-8859. Getting rid of this stuff on the sending end means telling your mail client not to do any MIME stuff or try to send messages in 8-bit charcter sets (unless you're sending chinese or some language that requires it). on the receiving end there's not much you can do aside from ignoring it. some mail programs will strip MIME stuff when you do replies/forwards; my mail program will accept "-nomime" to strip out mime stuff. I was going to reply to your first post (received Sat, 26 Jan 2002 23:27:25 CST) but I didn't want to draw attention to what a geek i am. :P Jesse <- knows more about computers than i ever will about cars, and have the wrecked m3 to prove it '96 M3 <- on jackstands and awaiting attention from negligent owner
