I checked this out with the ETK. Interestingly, but not suprisingly, only the US OBD II cars had the newer 65L tank. All the Euro-spec E36s (including the Evo 3.2) had the original 62L tank 'til the end of production. I'm sure the 65L tank has everything to do with OBD II mandates and the monitoring of fuel vapor pressure. -Alan Taur 95 M3 with a dinky fuel tank. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Two of us so far have seen 65L (17.2gal) in our 95 M3 owners manuals, and someone reported having a 62L in their 96+ car.. I think you have it backwards.. especially since someone reported a 65L tank in their 93, and I know the E46's have 16.5.. it seems like this would fit the evidence better and be a more consistant trend. - reid

As far as Accusumps, the mechanical ones are generally used on startup, but the new electronic ones have an oil pressure sensing switch that can release the pressurized oil from the Accusump if your oil pump gets starved. The thought is that a momentary starvation from hard braking, cornering, or a combination of both can be relieved by the Accusump, since when the oil pressure from the pump returns, the Accusump gets refilled and pressurized and the process can start over. How much benefit it provides on > startup wear, I don't know. Their main purpose is a provide oil > pressure/supply when the oil in the pan has sloshed away from the pump > pickup when you are in a corner, etc. I thought accusump was just for startup and not when the car was actually running..??? Date: Fri, 1 Feb 2002 10:11:08 EST From: HYPERM3@aol.com Subject: Polishing wheels Hey all, It's that time of the yr. for me where I individually polish every wheel to keep it up to shine. I usually hand polish with this stuff I got from Griots Garage which works great but this time I feel lazy. I was wondering if anyone has used or can recommend some type of polish wheel for a dremmel or drill and if they have done this with any success. Thanks, Alex "HyperM3" Demsky 97 SC M3 34k

#5. Damage to BMWs in Service at Washington, DC Dealerships - from Osbcso@aol.com

Date: Fri, 01 Feb 2002 10:20:45 EST From: Osbcso@aol.com Subject: Damage to BMWs in Service at Washington, DC Dealerships Fellow Bimmerheads: I have the luxury (or is it the curse) of owning two BMWs that are still under warranty and must be taken back to local BMW dealerships for warranty work, unless I want to pay an independent to fix them. Since February of last year, I have had numerous "run ins" with four "4" that is F-O-U-R local BMW dealerships where, in addition to not repairing the cars properly the first time, they have a knack at damaging them also while under their care. Issues/problems noted: breaking inner door panel in removing to repair glass seal, bent license plate frame, bumped/scratched rear bumper, 3 foot scratches on hood, crushed brake duct deflectors under car, pressed indentations on steering wheel. All the above problems were taken care of by each of the dealerships (needing repeated visits to iron out) except the last one, the steering wheel, and that, I believe was caused by the newest dealership franchise in Northern Virginia yesterday.....but they are not admitting to it. I am also running out of dealerships, and since this one is 10 minutes from my house, I am not kicking up a big stink on this last item. But it angers me because I know the depressions were not on the wheel prior to the car going in under their care. Now, I am an ethical person, and would not be trying to swizz dealerships into repairing damage to my car that they did not inflict. I am also, as many of you are, very attentive to the condition of my car, and I know almost immediately when something has changed physically on the vehicle. I always wash the cars weekly and look the car over each time I have left it parked...so I know changes in the car. My question to you all in the Northern Virginia/DC area: Are you getting the same treatment at BMW dealerships or is this just me and two black clouds hanging over both these cars? I am not superstitious, so I believe this is happening all the time out there. All I know is that because of it, I have lost all respect for BMW and their servicing network. Follow up customer service survey calls from NA and even the dealership customer surveyors have not gotten me one call from an in charge person at these dealerships to say this is not common and we are sorry. In addition, repeated calls to NA only got a "well they took care of the problems for you" but no understanding that the dealerships are not taking proper care of my personal property nor that I must repeatedly revisit these dealers to fix newly created dealership problems. I am also on a first name basis with all the service managers at these facilities, expressing my concerns, but nothing gets better. In addition, my anger has caused me to cancel an order on a 2002 M3 and I doubt very seriously if I will ever buy another BMW again..........VERY FRUSTRATING AS YOU CAN IMAGINE!!! I love these cars so much, but can't handle the service after the sale frustration!!!! Life is complicated enough without this added BMW aggravation! It ain't worth it!! Thanks for letting me vent.... Chris Osborne 2000 M Roadster 25500 miles (a real problem car, dealerships cannot fix the problems) 1998 528i 49650 miles (not as many problems, much better build quality than Roadster that doesn't require as much dealership intervention) BMWCCA #92573 Ashburn, VA

Both can change dramatically if you lose fluid. Oil temp changes slowly and can be checked once a lap. Longacre makes a kit with 3 gauges and 3 warning lights for OT,OP,WT. But the senders have those pesky NPT threads. I have heard the JTD oil distribution block doesn't fit well with a Euro oil filter housing (required for an oil cooler), so that's why I had an extra port drilled and tapped (1/8 NPT). Actually, I have a 1/8 NPT port on my stock US filter housing, too.

Of course, they couldn't find the 235/40s at that time, so I ended up with Yoks, but I *think* I remember them being closer to $160 and there were no shipping charges to get them in. Try calling your local Discount Tire or America's Tire Co. (same companies) to see what prices they can get. I know evosport.com sells them also, but I don't know what their prices are. Good luck, and let us know what you come up with! ;) Jonathan L. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
