I agree with Alan in that the information he obtained from the ETK is consistent with his statement. In addition, the size of the fuel tank on my 1995 M3 appears to be consistent with a 16.4 gallon (62 liter) tank rather than a 17.2 gallon (65 liter tank) based on my OBC and my fill-up when the tank is near empty. Name of the company is Terrapin Tire (713) 688-9500. I dealt with the owner, Gary. My understanding is that Toyo charges the dealers $148 each for these tires. I suggest using the "Find a Dealer" feature on the Toyo website to track down a dealer in your area. Perhaps you'll find one willing to sell you the tires at close to their cost. This would seem to provide more protection on the cold-morning startups, while providing a little added protection if/when the oil goes about 225F. Personally, I've always used straight Mobil-1 10W-30 at the track, but I tend to shift really early on the straights (usually well under 6K rpms), and I don't usually do track events during the hot summer months. #5. Damage to BMWs in Service at Washington, DC Dealerships - from Paul Elliott
Top
Date: Fri, 1 Feb 2002 23:24:22 -0500 From: "Paul Elliott" <elliott.paul@worldnet.att.net> Subject: Damage to BMWs in Service at Washington, DC Dealerships Chris, >>In addition, my anger has caused me to cancel an order on a 2002 M3 and I doubt very seriously if I will ever buy another BMW again<< If I hadnt heard it from the horses mouth I never would have believed such misfortune could occur so frequently. From another perspective, I assure you that all BMW dealers are not alike, which points to a quality control issue between bMW and their dealer network. I use 1 dealer predominantly, and the only issue of the type youve experienced is a broken after market cup holder, which they couldnt figure out how to lower, and so broke off one of the side supports...It wasnt serious though because I was able to pop it back in. Never had any scratches or other damage Id consider serious. Its bad enough to have received damage from 1 dealer, but 4? Its almost unheard of. In general I think dealer's attitudes are terrible...Ill give you an example...I used to have a Maxima, and one particular service I was really pissed because not only did they treat me rudely, but, they let me drive off the lot after a service with a bone dry oil pan? They drained but forgot to refil! I had to buy 5 qts on my own and refil at the nearest srvc station...When I drove back and told them showing them the oil receipts, they didn believe me! So, when Nissan called to find out how my service was, I gave them a pretty low rating...Not the lowest, but pretty low...Next time I went in for service, know what the service manager said? I dont know why some people keep coming back here if they hate the service so much!!! Like it was MY fault they do such a lousy job.....I know this was Nissan, but I'll bet you there BMW dealers who take the same attitude......Maybe BMW NA should allow customer comments to remain confidential. I know that after my Nissan experience, Id feel more likely to be honest if I knew my name wouldnt go back to teh dealer if I didnt want it to...There are some cases where the owner DOES want the dealer to know whos making the less than positive comments...But for those who dont, I think BMW would get more honest reviews of dealers if they offered this option.. But thats must my opinion. These were in my e30 for 2-3 weeks and I removed them because I could not achieve a good seating position with bottom mounts and sliders. These will work fine with the side mounts but that rules out the sliders. These seats are new and spotless. Color: Black. 2 seats, 2 side-mounts: $1000 + shipping These seats go for $575 each and the mounts are an additional $40 each. Date: Sat, 2 Feb 2002 10:47:14 EST From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Damage to BMWs in Service at Washington, DC Dealerships I have to agree with Paul. My Allentown BMW dealership is top notch, but there few and far between. Only one occasion in five years have I been dissatisfied with the service and when the dealership found out, the next time in they serviced my car for free! They said, "They needed to make up for the last time I was in"....that's service. Oh yeah, they also ripped my leather driver's seat last year replacing the seat warmer element. They were so sorry and apologetic. They ordered three sets of covers to best match the existing leather in the car, and ended up replacing the coverings on the whole seat and the head rest as well! That's service. Now the Audi and MB dealership in my area....royal jerks! Hope you find a good one. Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA AS Champion 1997 & 2000 BSP Champion 2001
