The plastic neck cannot be fixed, been there done that. The stock plastic radiator is known to be weak and when your engine overheat and the coolant pressure it too high, it will snap off. While you are at it I'd recommend you to replace the thermostat and the waterpump as a preventive maintenance. Good luck! Joe. ------------------ As i'm pulling into my driveway yesterday, I noticed the smell of antifreeze and saw white smoke coming from under the hood, right above the driver's side headlight. Popped the hood open and, sure enough, the upper hose connected to the radiator broke loose, causing a mess of steam and leaky coolant. I tried to reattach, but the plastic inner ring is broken. I'm not planning to replace my radiator for upwards of $500, so can anyone suggest a fix? Is there a replacement for that part of the radiator? Help! My garage smells like I've been driving a fishing boat to work instead of a bimmer! Thanks! Jay '95 M3 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? FWIW, I bought a Bell helmet two seasons ago and wasn't particularly impressed with the build quality. People have confirmed this with me and say that Bell's quality isn't as good as it used to be. If I were you, I'd consider models from Arai, Simpson or other reputable helmet manufacturers other than Bell. This is a SA rated helmet (special applications). Some clubs will allow you to use motorcycle (M rated) helmets, though for use in my car I wanted to play it safe and get an SA rated helmet. Main difference - fireproof liner on the inside of the skid lid. When you do try on helmets, try them on in YOUR car. Find a shop that has helmets in stock, go there and try them out. First job is to find a helmet that fits your head well, then secondary is to find a helmet that will work in your car (this may or may not be an issue for you) I like to sit up fairly upright, and in my coupe with the sunroof, I don't have a whole lot of clearance between my head and the roof (probably between 1"-2"). Certain helmets were just too tall, I would bump up against the roof liner. The M2 was decent in that I fit pretty OK, only minor rubbing. This has since been remedied - I use a Schroth belt for autocrossing which pulls me down into the seat enough for my helmeted head to not interfere with the roof. Hope that helps, Andrej '97 M3

#7. front Koni installation - from alex.fadeev@verizon.com

Date: Tue, 5 Feb 2002 15:02:22 -0600 From: alex.fadeev@verizon.com Subject: front Koni installation Folks, How far off the top of front E36 strut cartridge do you start cutting? TC Kline's Koni install directions I got instructed to start cutting 7mm from the top. I could not get the plastic tops off my '95 M3 strut cartridges to see for myself, so I followed the instructions. After 10 minutes of slaving with a hacksaw I'm here to report that all I did was saw through the top crimps above of the strut cartridge roof. I was still 3-4mm higher than the cartridge top that needs to be cut off. What's more, there are four pushed in crumple zones inside the cartridge that I would likely need to cut off before the old Boge insert will come out. Before I play it safe and cut 2" off the top of the cartridge, can anyone else who has BTDT tell me how much off the top do I need to cut? TIA, alex f '95 M3 with half gutted front struts

It has a nice, big eye port and fits my irregular head rather well. ;) It's also much lighter than the open-faced helmets I used to borrow. I tried a Bell M3 on in the same size and it was really snug in some spots, and I felt a bit constrained with the little eye port. Definitely try a few different ones on. If you're going to order one, I'd suggest OG Racing. They had the best prices I could find... of course I found the best price *after* I ordered mine from another vendor. Their customer service seems pretty good as well. If you do, your Koni insert will stick out the top by a lot and then you wouldn't be able to reinstall the black plastic cover. Of course, this is all cosmetic. You should be able to get the plastic cover off...just use a little muscle power. With the cover removed, you only need to cut about 3/8" down from the top of the strut...that is, the top, not the bottom of the crushed in part. You cut around the tube and of course, you'll cut into the actual strut insert itself...but that's okay. Use a flat screwdriver (big one, preferably) and insert the head into the groove and twist and the top should pop right off. then pull the old insert out. Really...only a 3/8" or a little more (not much more).
