Its pretty easy to partially remove those door panels. That might be enough for you to locate whats going on....Then you could stuff some foam, rags, or whatever in there to dampen the resonance....Or if its a leather on leather type creak, some leather oil might work wonders. But first try to isolate it ... In my coupe, the doors used to creak when..you guessed it (if you read above post)...coasting down my driveway! I fixed my problem by adjusting the door latching plate on the B pillar. You need a torx drive socket to adjust the plate position (2 bolts). I didn't adjust the height of the plate, I just moved it closed to the center of the car, so the door latches closed a bit "tighter"...now mine is creak-free. Just be careful not to move the plate too far in, as the door will become hard to open! Maybe this will work for your sedan. Date: Sun, 10 Feb 2002 21:04:12 -0500 From: Mark Kelly <mark@garden.net> Subject: Re: Rear Shock Mount problem? Paul, I have a similar sound that I get in my car...a weird clinking that occurs going over small road irregularities as slow speed...say coasting down my driveway. Very annoying. At first I thought it was the rear head rest...if you wiggle them they will make a similar noise, but I pulled those out (actually they pull up and out..extend them as high as they will go..and grasp both rods..squeeze them together a bit and wiggle as you pull up.) Anyway, after I got them out the noise was still there. If I lower the rear seats...it is even louder. My next step is to tear out the trunk and rear seats, then sit in the trunk as someone drives up and down my driveway. BTW, I changed the RSMs to E46ers and it didn't help. Oh yes, I will find the noise. Sorry I can't be of more help. #7. Q re (re)attaching outside mirror - from Jim Files

Date: Sun, 10 Feb 2002 18:23:09 -0800 From: Jim Files <jfiles@alumni.ucsd.edu> Subject: Q re (re)attaching outside mirror I feel silly. I was out in the garage, just moving a bike around, and accidentally bumped in to the passenger side rear view mirror - and the whole assembly popped off. See http://www.chezgage.com/jim/content/automotive/images/mirror.jpg for a visual. It looks like it should just shove back on, but resisted initial efforts. Any tricks? I can get by without the car until Monday afternoon, at which point I will just get someone to ride with me to hold the mirror while I take it to a dealer to get them to reattach the silly thing if I can not before then. Thanks for any advice you can offer! Jim -- ICQ:27292190 mailto:jfiles@alumni.ucsd.edu (slow delivery lately, urgent? -> phone) http://www.chezgage.com/jim/ (2/6)

Whew! Now I am actually in a position to start spending some money on my M3. First things first, I need an x-brace. Sal Alfredo was selling one, but that was before I had a job that actually pays me. I'm finished being a mechanics lackey. Well, almost. As soon as I finish my brake job and change the oil in the trans I'll be done. Good thing I did the alignment last week. Mel

Jim, I did the same thing (won't admit how). Since I was running late to a meeting, I attempted to remount the mirror, got frustrated and, well, just pushed. Really, really hard. It snapped back on.
