Reminds me of two of the four times I have been there. Most NSXs that run there with the BMW club seem to be there to have some fun, get some experience and not ball up there car. I would imagine a stock NSX and M3 are fairly equal but if you stuck Mario Andretti behind the wheel of both, my nod will go to the NSX. Both are great cars, period, but in different ways. The NSX may be a little more temperamental and harder to drive fast and the M3 is more forgiving. Excellent drivers seem to get past temperamental while novice drivers can look fast in a more forgiving M3 (like me, just kidding!). Regards, Rich - not very fast at all and not willing to ball up my car. 95 M3

Well, I wasn't going to mention this before but since we are already so far off topic, I will. When I was at Mid-Ohio with the NSX club, there was a professional driver out on the track in the novice group in a Ford Festiva-like car (but a 4 door - one of those Toyota Echo'esque, sub 1 liter cars complete with STOCK 13 or 14", 155 series tires) PASSING the NSX drivers regularly. This is why so many people say that you are better off spending your $300 on a Driver's School rather than that cool looking strut bar or something along those lines. I also forgot to mention before that every time I drive the NSX, I wish that my M3 transmission could be as smooth, direct and easy to shift as that one and that when I get back in the M3, it feels like I am in a SUV. -Wayne

All three drivers were fastest in the 'vette, with the Porsche coming in second for the two "experienced" drivers. The 'vette is only 20 lbs heavier than the NSX, 100 lbs lighter than the C2, has the widest tires and by far the most power. I don't think that hurts. My last track day, I was driving like crap, yet I still got a point-by from a stock NSX while I was carrying two passengers (I run a turbo M3 with stock brakes/suspension on street tires) . However, the supercharged NSX with R-compounds walked away from me. ----- Original Message ----- From: "russell" <driver8m3@yahoo.com> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2002 8:57 PM Subject: [E36M3] NSX > Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 19:56:17 -0800 (PST) > From: russell <driver8m3@yahoo.com> > Subject: NSX > > i dont have the issue in front of me, but the most recent road and track > has a comparison of a 911, NSX and Z06. i dont remember it all, but i > think the Z06 came out on top for all 3 drivers... > > in a straight line, i consistently lose to a friends 2002 carrera-2. >

#8. [E36M3] Pilot Sport Cup tires - from twisty M3

Date: Thu, 14 Feb 2002 08:47:25 -0800 From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: [E36M3] Pilot Sport Cup tires Just caught this info on the tirerack forum at roadfly.com. http://forums.roadfly.com/bmw/forums/wheels/forum.php?postid=300840&page=1 Looks like these tires are now available for BMWs. I don't know much about them, except that they may be pretty expensive. Saw a preview of them in an EVO car magazine a while back and they looked like they probably have about as much tread depth as the new Kumho V700s. It was an illustration though. Just FYI for all the club racers, etc. Jonathan L. _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com

#9. Rear wing improvement of handling issue - from VT

Date: Thu, 14 Feb 2002 08:54:57 -0800 (PST) From: VT <fstbmwm3@yahoo.com> Subject: Rear wing improvement of handling issue Since 1995 I have been trying to avoid "gettin riced up" but the competition (Mitsu EVO VI, Subaru WRX STi, 911) are loaded with aero mods (wings, splitters etc.) I have been trying to counter the aero improvements with expert suspension tunning, but the competition today is really catching up. Q&A 1) Have the racers of this forum seen measurable improvent from rear wing (or front splitter) ? 2) Is the difference measurable on tight and technical tracks ? 3) If there is significant rear downforce added, will that increase understeer significantly ? How do you guys deal with that ? I am not talking about wimpy wings. I am talking about wings same or better than the M3 LTW with the extending part. I have seen custom fiberglass shops with low cost (but quality work) rear wings that have adjustable wind angles. regards, Vlasis ===== 1995 M3 Custom Intake w/ heat shield & custom K&N, Euro HFM, Bored out Throttle Body, Hi flow injectors, Schrick cams, JimC. chip, Supersprint Euro size headers, Dr. Gas Crossover/ Eurosized, Supersprint Euro size exhaust w/ no-cats,lightweight flywheel, 3.23 rear diff w/ 40% lock, H&R race springs,Koni Sports s/adj., Dinan camber plates,Dinan offset plates,Motorsport front strut brace,Schnitcher rear strut brace, UUC tranny mounts, all Powerflex bushings, anorexic diet to 2750lbs (dry weight,no driver) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Also, is there a recommended vendor? Nick Alexander? Mail order is fine, as I'm not in a hurry (although it did make checking the oil this morning interesting :-)).
