#1. HK with 6x9's? - from Peter Guagenti

Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2002 15:32:39 -0800 From: Peter Guagenti <peter@guagenti.com> Subject: HK with 6x9's? I've seen folks on this list post that the E36 with the HK system had 6x9's in the back. Is this correct? Has anyone on this list actually used these shells to hold a 6x9, or is it something that you simply "heard from a friend". I'd like to mount 6x9's in the back of my car, and have considered fabricating a fiberglass shell. I'd love to avoid that effort if there was a factory alternative... Any help is appreciated. -peterg (audiophile with a crappy system)

I remember looking closely at them to see if I could use the adapter/housing for any 6x9. I decided that the HK system wasn't worth the extra $600 since it sounded pretty crappy - lots more boomy bass but no better fidelity, IMO. It didn't appear that the speaker could be ordered separately from the housing so I never followed up by checking with the parts counter. I'd love to know something can be done here since I'm pretty tired of the poor sound in the car. I never get to listen to my system at home so I figure it could be time to improve things for the daily commute. - Bob -----Original Message----- From: Peter Guagenti [mailto:peter@guagenti.com] Sent: Monday, February 18, 2002 3:42 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] HK with 6x9's? #4. Koni vs Bilstein - from Don Trieu

Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2002 16:16:14 -0800 From: "Don Trieu" <trieu@mbkengineers.com> Subject: Koni vs Bilstein Hello Fellow Listers I know this has been beaten to death but I need new struts for my 98 M3 and am undecided between the Koni's and Bilsteins. My car is essentially a daily commuter, lots of freeway miles so im looking for a ride that is not bone jarring. The car is bone stock, stock springs, stock wheels, etc. and I plan to keep it that way. Which of the two struts would be best for my situation? I hear the Konis are a little softer than the Bilsteins, can anyone confirm. Thanks Don

Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2002 19:47:50 -0500 From: Steve Lilley <m3steve@earthlink.net> Subject: Milwaukee Cordless Impact Wrench Has anyone used one of these: Milwaukee 18V Cordless 1/2" Impact Wrench, Model #9079-22. Maximum torgue is rated at 240 ft-lbs. Seems like a pretty good buy at $300, including 8 piece socket set: <http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=45638> I've got a crummy 9.6V SnapOn Cordless Impact Wrench (Model CT30), but it doesn't have any torque -- even with a fully-charged battery. I'm tired of needing a breaker bar every time I want to break the wheel lugs loose. Regards, Steve m3steve@earthlink.net

#6. Cleaning Brake Dust & Wheel Weight Sticker from Wheels - from Geof McLaughlin

Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2002 19:58:00 -0500 From: Geof McLaughlin <gfmiiilist@usa.net> Subject: Cleaning Brake Dust & Wheel Weight Sticker from Wheels Does anyone have any suggestions as to what product to use to remove metallic-based brake dust? Someone once gave me some kind of chemical (acid?) that attacks rust, but leaves painted surfaces alone. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name. Anyone happen to know what it was? I'm also interested in hearing how to clean the wheel weight sticker residue from wheels without scratching them. I believe that the residue left is similar to foam tape backing. Thanks in advance for your cleaning tips! Geof

#7. WTB: BBS RK or RC Wheels, 17 x 8 - from KLchmn@aol.com
Top
Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2002 20:12:00 EST From: KLchmn@aol.com Subject: WTB: BBS RK or RC Wheels, 17 x 8 I am looking for a set of BBS RK or RC wheels, 17 x 8 (for E36 M3, obviously). Cosmetics unimportant, however, the wheels must be straight and true (and unrepaired, etc.). These wheels will be used on my '95 m3 club race car so I don't need center caps (RCs) or lug bolts (I run studs and lug nuts). I would prefer bare wheels, but will consider wheels with track tires on them. The reason you have rust is b/c the metal flakes are melted into the paint and those flakes are rusting. I switched to a non metallic pad, like the Portorfield R4S. They are carbon/kevlar I thought I was safe from the squealing problem but it finally arrived after 10K. Though still no squeal on the iX. Either way it sure beats wasting a Saturday removing the metal flakes melted into the clear/paint on the wheels and rear bumper. For the bumper, use clay. Sort of works for the wheels too, but whatever you use you will be slowly removing the clear/paint making the problem worse and worse and harder and harder to clean. > I'm also interested in hearing how to clean the wheel weight > sticker residue from wheels without scratching them. But I suppose its just as possible that they left them as they were out of the box. I use this car only on the street at this point, and, if I seem to like the way it feels as it is, is there any abiding reason I should go a turn stiffer?
