Looks to be similar to the > BFG KDs but at a good price point. I hear they are coming out in April: I posted this elsewhere, just thought the list would be interested, at least to file away as y'all nurse the last few miles out of your current shoes until spring: -------------------- I just got off the phone with one of senior tech guys at Kumho about their new street tire, the MX, seen here: http://www.kumhousa.com/pages/pass_uhp_mx.htm For us M3 guys, I called to inquire about the tire, since it is listed in the 245/40-17, but not 235/40's. While they have not ruled out that size, it will be quite some time before we see them, probably 10 mos. So, if you are willing to go with wider rims up front (like 8 or 8.5's) and possibly use spacers (if you are using c/o's, for example), it may be a good way to go. In my discussion, I learned that this is a max performance tire, just below the Yokohama AO32R (Dot R) in terms of ultimate grip but better than most of the street performance street tires on the market for dry and wet grip. It was engineered to best the Bridgestone S03 and the BFG KD. The tech rep I spoke with stated that he was supremely confident (my words, not his) that it would beat the S03 in performance, and independent testing will bear this out. He did not give me exact pricing, but stated that they will be priced lower than the S03. BTW, the rep I spoke with was an industry veteran, defecting from Bridgestone 1 mos. ago after 15 years as an engineer for them. He was intimately familiar with the S03, as well as the BFG KD. It will be interesting to see the independent testing from the tire Rack. They will be available April timeframe, as they are in production now. If the Kumhos are close in performance to the present S03's, and cheaper, it will be a huge win for consumers like us; I bet there will be some downward pricing pressure on companies like Bridgestone. . . . Just passing it along...... ---------------------- In other tire news, we talked about where Kumho is positioned in the market, having gotten a loyal following in the track area for the great Dot R-compound tires, and their interest in getting more visibility and penetrating the street tire market. Finally, wrt their DOT-R compounds, the deal is that eventually they will kill their Victoracer V700 in favor of the Ecsta V700, but that they wanted to have ample overlap b/t the two to give racer-types a chance to migrate to the new tires and accept them. They did not want to have happen what happened to BFG with their R1's. Jeff

Unlike the pictures I have seen on your website, the filter almost touches the stock US headlamp and quarter panel. I'll see if I can dig up the pictures. I believe this is one of your very early kits. Needless to say, it worked great and I still miss it's WOT howl. The one and only reason I'm selling it is because I got a turbo, otherwise, it would have been a keeper. I've run the Victoracers on the M3 for one school and subsequently on the race car for several events. I can provide some feedback to the list (if I remember; someone can always remind me :-)). Also looking to see if anyone who is going might be interested in making a few dollars on that Friday or Saturday morning before sessions begin by helping me swap out my brake pads (with your tools). ;) I, unfortunately, don't have the space or the tools to do it at home, and I really don't want to spend a ton of cash at my mechanics this weekend if I can avoid it. Thanks, and chime in if you're attending. It's always great to meet new listers and see familiar faces. #10. Mounting a V1 in the rear window - from Robert S. Hatrak II
Top
Date: Tue, 26 Feb 2002 14:25:12 -0800 From: "Robert S. Hatrak II" <rob@hatrak.com> Subject: Mounting a V1 in the rear window I just got my mirror back from being modded by Jim Powell to included the Valentine One concealed display behind the mirror's glass. This is a very trick product, and I plan to post some pictures soon to show you all how cool it is. But until then, I have a dilemma that I thought I'd share with the group. A couple of weeks ago, I mounted a new V1 in the rear window of my MB E320 (keeping the front to back orientation correct), along with a concealed display and remote audio control. Everything looks good, except that I've noticed that the radar reception really sucks now. I can drive full speed past a store (Home Depot) that always alerts me that I better slow down, but now with the unit mounted in the rear, I get no warning at all until I've passed the store. At that point, I get a rear radar warning. Not good. I've talked with the Valentine folks, and they've told me that mounting the unit in the rear window will basically castrate my V1 and render it basically useless. Also not good. So, at this point, I think I'm going to have to move the V1 back up to the front window in the MB, and scrap my plans to do the same sort of install in the M3. This is a real bummer, as it was nice not having the V1 cluttering up the front of the car. The only thing I can think of at this point would be to dismantle the V1 and try to separate the forward and rear antennas, thus making it a dual remote radar detector. That would most likely be a major PITA. Anyway, I just thought I share. Those of you who have mounted your V1 into your rear window or 3rd brake light housings might want to re-think it. Rob PS. When I ordered the two new V1s a couple weeks ago, I found a buyer for my 7 year old V1 on ebay. I sold it for $320, if you can believe that!

If you double-lock a car with a factory alarm, the alarm will be armed. So then when you unlock the trunk only, and open it, the alarm will sound. d'oh! IIRC, On my 95 M3, you lock by turning the key once. Double lock by turning the key twice. The difference between lock and double lock (if you don't have an alarm) seems to be that the fuel filler door locks only on double lock. by definition, "double lock" means arm alarm, if you have one. According to my manual. - reid > If you single-lock the doors, they will unlock when you unlock the trunk. > If you double-lock the doors, they will remain locked when you unlock the > trunk. > > Now, I can single-lock or double-lock the doors on my E34 and E30, just by > controlling how far I rotate the key when I lock the door.
