For example, the Rack lists that size in the S03's as fitting 7.5 to 9" rims. The guys at bimmerworld ran 225 Pilot Cups on 8.5's in their 24 hr race, and I've seen plenty of 225 Hoosiers on 8.5 rims. The caveat, however, is that while the 8.5's will provide improved turn-in and feel over 8's or 7.5's, you'll have an effective stiffer tire, which, of course, is a part of your suspension system. If you dig the wheels, and this is your only issue, I wouldn't give it too much thought. Get 'em. I'm running 8's all around for my street wheels, and regret it. . . Jeff 97 M3, on BBS RX's

The 9s will be close in the rear. Both will require fender rolling. I would recommend just having at it with a hawkewa fender roller from Tire Rack, or paying someone to do it... just be ready to touch up your paint after. :) with a 38mm offset, you are probably gonna need a 10mm spacer up front, too. -kit

#8. Radiator cap alert + pre 96 water pump data - from VT
Top
Date: Thu, 28 Feb 2002 00:57:19 -0800 (PST) From: VT <fstbmwm3@yahoo.com> Subject: Radiator cap alert + pre 96 water pump data Well my recent tow from the track that was thought to be a bad 1995 plastic water pump (suddenly overheated during lap 4, and some fluid was sprayed in engine bay ) was a .... misproperly tightened radiator or failed canister fill cap..... that leaked pressure and allowed boil-over. The boil over inside the block reduced the efficiency of the system, to the point that I could even cruise the car back home. While at the dealer I R&R the radiator cap, water pump (pre 95 unit) and the 80d thermostast. Note that I have kept the fan (100+F hot Mediterranean summers) but have removed the A/C and the radiator has no obstruction form the A/C radiator. After looking at the pre 96 WP it looked OK no visible damage after 100k redlined miles and annual complete coolant flushes. There was a slight off-axis play that could be because of bad bearings or unbalanced impeller but nothing that would affect performance. The dealer techs said the WP looked better than any WP with 100k miles, so I credit the annual BMW coolant flushes. To recap make sure the radiator cap is properly tighened (duh !) and never miss the annual coolant flush. After having R&R my clutch, bushings, rotors and calipers, it is embarrasing to get towed for such a stupid cause... Date: Thu, 28 Feb 2002 10:55:53 -0500 From: "Luis Rueda" <Luis_Rueda@Interliant.com> Subject: Need softer suspension for my M3 Thanks for all the responses. Believe it or not, I don't mind the Bilsteins/H&R's ride as much (the car feels very balanced both on auto-x & driving schools & I guess that I got used to the street ride). The GF drives the M3 now & she wants a softer ride & that's what she's getting (the MCoupe is getting the Bilsteins/H&R's now, hehe). What's the best & cheapest place to buy the Koni's (SA's?) & is anybody selling their stock E36M3 springs? (please respond privately). Thanks again, Luis BMWCCA member '99 MCoupe '95 M3 '86 325 -------------------- 5 -------------------- Date: Wed, 27 Feb 2002 18:08:45 -0600 From: alex.fadeev@verizon.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Need softer suspension for my M3 Luis, Bilstein only makes misvalved Sport shocks for E36 M3. I would suggest you take a look at Koni's in conjunction with stock springs. I've found the above combination to be Caddy-soft after driving on TC's TrackLine kit (Koni SA's with H&R Stage 2 front and Stage 4 rear springs) for a few weeks. I took the 1.5+" lower H&Rs back out after living though a few belly scraping induced heart attacks. Once at a local shop during a failed attempt to get my car on the allignment rack due to clearance problems. Twice at gas stations driving over an access hole cover. The "oh shit there goes my oil pan" sensation got old very fast. I wasn't too crazy about the roller coaster street ride on those springs, but was almost willing to live with them had it not been for the ground clearance problems. If anyone wants sub-1K mile old TrackLine H&R spring kit or is tempted to trade their H&R OE Sport springs for mine, drop me a line. alex f
