#1. ECIS / My last post about intakes - from hatrak@ix.netcom.com

Date: Sun, 03 Mar 2002 20:57:48 -0500 From: <hatrak@ix.netcom.com> Subject: ECIS / My last post about intakes Hi all. Last week I sent an email regarding intake systems. After looking back at it, I agree that I was being unfair to ECIS and a bit over-the-top. Since then we've exchanged several emails back and forth about the subject, and I'm sure we've thoroughly pissed each other off. We disagreed, and that's cool, as people have differences of opinion all the time. But fellow BMW enthusiasts are bashing each other, and that's not cool. Ford or Chevy? BMW or Porsche? Democrat or Republican? Debates happen. No hard feelings on my end guys, truly. However, our disagreement may have been moot. It has been brought to my attention that their current product in no way resembles the product of two years ago that I sampled. They advise me that they are using a different filter, shield material, etc. than what was used in the kit I negatively reviewed. For me to say that their current intakes systems are good or bad would be unfair due to the very fact that I have yet to try their current offerings on my car. Two years ago, ECIS gladly returned the product and refunded the money. That's what any good retailer would/should do, and they fit the bill in that regard. I have received quite a few emails from the ECIS fans praising the product, so they must feel that way for a reason. Viewing the testimonials on their website also shows a good number of happy customers. That's great to hear. Conforti or ECIS? I don't care which you use, as I have no vested business interest in either party. Have fun driving your car - no matter how it breathes. Rob PS. When I buy my Jim Powell Demon Eye kit, it will be through ECIS if they'll accept the order. I can't wait to install them and post a review. <VBG> : )

#2. Windy noises and a whoosh! - from Spencer Fong

Listening to the engine as I was checking for oil leaks, the most predominant noise is the sound of rushing air near the intake runners; it's pretty loud. And two seconds after I turn off the engine, I hear a whoosh! like a bus releasing its air brakes or a blow-off valve. Are these normal sounds? Everything runs fine. Thanks. Spencer

The unscrewd radiator cup was not the end... During the fuss, I lost my wheel lock nut thingie... Now I cant get my wheels off the car. The anti theft wheel lock bolts were bought from the BMW dealer (set of 4) and have a round head and a "daizy pattern" that the key nut fits on. The safety bolts were torqued at 85 and hi temp bronze lubricant was used. Therefore the bolts are not "stuck" Just need to clamp them and apply enough torque. What should do ? Thanks in advance. #6. brake pedal feel - from The Abels
Top
Date: Mon, 4 Mar 2002 07:50:14 -0600 From: "The Abels" <aAbel@austin.rr.com> Subject: brake pedal feel I'm a bit frustrated in my quest to get a solid brake pedal. Presently my pedal feels like this: Apply brakes, met with semi-mushy feel with more than ideal brake pedal travel. Let off brakes then get back on, and the pedal seems to 'tighten up' a bit, and be a bit stiffer. Here's the history. 4 months ago, before a DE, I had the lines flushed. I was running stock brakes. I had a soft pedal, but thought it was a problem with the shop and their use of a pressure bleeder. The brakes lacked intial bite that I have had in this car in the past. I then proceeded to boil my fluid at the track. I manually bled them with ATE superblue at the track. Result? Mushy pedal. Fast forward to this weekend. I had Earl SS lines installed, then Hawk pads, and in the process the shop pressure bled with ATE Superblue. Still a mushy pedal. I then manually bled the brakes: brake pedal only marginally better. I'm a bit frustrated; my buddy on his track car has a brake pedal like a rock (all stock except SS lines and HT10 pads), the same with another car I drove with the same setup as mine (SS lines, Hawks, ATE Blue). In fact, my friend who owns this car drove mine around the paddock and said 'when's the last time your brakes were flushed?' Suggestions/thoughts? Perhaps my calipers need a rebuild? Master cylinder needs attention? What bothers me the most about this, is that I'm having a bit of difficulty modulating the brakes, but never seemed to have a problem when the system was more new-ish. . . Thanks, Jeff 97 M3/4 with yucky brake pedal

It doesn't drip, the crappy connectors just kind of weep. Has anyone had this fixed and know how much I should expect to pay? Thanks! I also ordered = a BMW X-Brace to install at the same time. I am planning to have the work done at Excluservice in Rockville, MD on Monday as the parts must be shipped to them. =20 Anyhow, I have just one question: TC is including the 95 spring hats that are needed for the H&R Springs. However, are there any other = parts that I should obtain for the install? Do I need Z3 plates or anything else like that? =20 TIA =20 R Ehrlich 98 M3, Alpine White

#10. Rebound & Koni SA's - from Michael Schaublin
Top
Date: Mon, 04 Mar 2002 11:03:05 -0500 From: "Michael Schaublin" <mike_schaublin@hotmail.com> Subject: Rebound & Koni SA's Another data point on the impact of rebound damping on ride quality with Koni SA's. I turned the fronts up to max rebound damping (with H&R Sports) and drove 120 miles this morning. Was better than the 2.5 turns I already had (which was far better than full soft). Per Chester's comment, the H&R sports probably could use even a little more rebound damping, but I'm not going to get them custom valved now that they're on the car. I'll set the rears to full stiff and let y'all know how that works out. #11. FS: 2 8.5" Forged Wheels - from Wayne Miller
Top
Date: Mon, 4 Mar 2002 11:16:06 -0500 From: "Wayne Miller" <m3@waynemiller.com> Subject: FS: 2 8.5" Forged Wheels I have 2 8.5" BMW forged double-spoke wheels for sale. I purchased these from AAARims.com and I just had them refinish them so they are absolutely perfectly clean and round with no curb rash, dirt or marks of any kind. In fact, they look brand new. I am looking for $350 each FIRM because otherwise I will keep them myself. The only problem with them is that after the refinishing, they don't look exactly like the stock wheel because they have more of a polished look all over than the anodized/polished look from the factory. It isn't easy to tell the difference unless they are right next to each other but if you mounted these 2 on one side of the car and the other 2 on the other, nobody would ever be able to tell. I will post pictures soon. -Wayne
