#1. Brake bleeding - from Richard Sperry

Date: Tue, 05 Mar 2002 08:25:47 -0500 From: Richard Sperry <richardsperry@comcast.net> Subject: Brake bleeding I read that when you power bleed the brakes, you need to pump the pedal 12 times while flushing the fluid from each caliper. I think it's about clearing out the ABS circuit. Is this correct? Would not doing this contribute to the mushy pedal you all are talking about? Rich 95 ///M3 with a firm pedal, and pumping while I bleed em.

#2. Ground Control C/Os - from AVUSM3@aol.com

Date: Tue, 5 Mar 2002 08:29:30 EST From: AVUSM3@aol.com Subject: Ground Control C/Os Does anyone on the list have Ground Control Coilovers on their car right now?? If so, what spring rates did you go with and how do you like the ride/handling balance? Have you ever compared your car with another M3 which had the H&R Coilover package? If so how did them compare? Please respond privately if possible. Thanks in advance. This is an important decision for my M3 and it is tough to get good, unbiased information. I expect delivery in the next week or two, so I'll update on how it turns out if everyone is interested. ChipM

Often times when I start > the car I get a coolant warning light that disappears after a minute or > two of the engine running. Have you found any possible fixes? I think all the replies I got were CC'd to the list, but I'll summarize anyway. Jim B. pointed out the check control faults are not stored until cleared like engine fault codes, so if you see it every time you start the car it's because the sensor is still reporting the problem every time. Also that BMW coolant sensors sometimes go bad so I probably just need a new sensor. James M. also mentioned that the coolant temp switches sometimes fail. Mo said that he had a very small leak in one of the small tubes behind the radiator, which set this off. So it's not *always* the sensor. Thanks all for your replies. I'm going to look again for coolant leaks (I really don't think I have one, since I've been paying close attention since the warning came on and have detected no loss of coolant in the reservoir or green puddles on the garage floor, but looking is free) and then replace the sensor. -- David Ripton dripton@wizard.net

#5. [E36M3] Rear Shock Tower Brace - from twisty M3

Date: Tue, 05 Mar 2002 08:21:22 -0800 From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: [E36M3] Rear Shock Tower Brace Just curious as to the change in the feel of the car that a rear shock tower brace might add. I've driven one car, a 4-door M3, with a rear bar, and it felt downright twitchy. This was at legal speeds on city streets. Even around regular street corners it felt like the rear wanted to step out. Mind you, it could've been other items on the car as well, since some people claim they don't even notice the rear bars. Anyone with a rear bar care to comment? Especially regarding track experience. #6. Wheels and Race Tires for sale - from Matt Henson

Date: Tue, 5 Mar 2002 08:23:08 -0800 (PST) From: Matt Henson <hensonator@yahoo.com> Subject: Wheels and Race Tires for sale For Sale: 4x 17x7.5" wheels from '95 M3. These are the original 10-spoke wheels that were on my car. One of the wheels was once bent a bit due to a curb encounter at AutoX. It has since been professionally straightened and re-finished. The other three wheels are also straight but may have some curb rash or other scratches. So these aren't show wheels but they will work great for the track or Auto-X. The wheels are shod in Kumho VictoRacer V700 DOT-R race rubber. The tires are about 1 year old and were used for 2 Autocrosses. They should have at least 75% of their life left. They have been stored in black plastic bags in a climate controlled environment (my guest bedroom). So they haven't been temperature cycled. The rubber is not hard at all. The new price for the tires is $550 + about $100 for mounting. Used wheels from a '95 M3 seem to go for $500 to $700. I'm asking $700 for the whole package, plus shipping from Austin, TX. If you're interested send me an e-mail and I'll get you some pics. -Matt __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Try FREE Yahoo! The plus: It's a great place to mount the sensors for the Schroth Autocontrols. The minus: It blocks the trunk and limits what can be slid through when the seats are folded. Added front and rear together so can't comment on how much effect it has but handling is fine. No problems. --- twisty M3 <twistym3@hotmail.com> wrote: > Date: Tue, 05 Mar 2002 08:21:22 -0800 > From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> > Subject: [E36M3] Rear Shock Tower Brace > > Just curious as to the change in the feel of the car that a rear > shock tower > brace might add. #9. Wheel lock saga continues - from Juan Bruce

Date: Tue, 05 Mar 2002 11:47:39 -0800 From: "Juan Bruce" <jbrucebmw@hotmail.com> Subject: Wheel lock saga continues I received two new keyes FedEx today from McGard. I used the new key to remove all but one of the wheel locks. The last one will not budge. I tired using slow uniform pressure to break it lose but eventually it just popped away and the key I was using has already started to deform. I don't know how it got that tight. I guess I can either put the key in an impact gun and try it until it fully breaks or I can try to find a shop that has the Snap-On removal kit and hope they can use it without ruining the wheel. -Juan Bruce '85 M635CSi '95 M3 _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
