#1. Koni SA raised my front ridge height - from Don Trieu

Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002 09:01:45 -0800 From: "Don Trieu" <trieu@mbkengineers.com> Subject: Koni SA raised my front ridge height I just got some Koni SA struts/shocks installed on my 98 M3 and now the front ride height is approximately 0.5-.75" higher. Has anyone had the same problem? My mechanic says the car should settle back down to original ride height but my understanding is the spring governs the ride height and not the struts. Any thoughts/suggestion?? TIA Don

The Koni struts have some gas pressure. The worn/shot OE struts probably had little to no pressure. Perhaps that might explain it? I hurried through a response so my message got warped. <regression> An over tighten bolt (McGard) occurred to me by a tire shop a long time ago. I had always done it by hand myself. The tire shop incident got me into the habit of removing and installing the lock bolts myself before going to a tire shop or a dealer. I also always ask them to do it by hand to limit actual damage to the wheel even on normal bolts (impact wrenches may not actually damage wheels but heavy objects get dropped and banged around). The tire shop I currently use (Tire Source in Boulder, CO) actually does all the bolts by hand and retorques them by hand on above average vehicles (or those which appear to come with anal drivers like us) so that there should never be a scratch let alone more. When I had the over-torqued locking bolt I used a breaker bar with a cheater to get enough torque to still do it by hand. Every time you use the impact you shorten the life of the lock/locking bolt. Is it worse than manual, I believe so. However I have never set up the test scenario to measure the stress. I agree that an Impact wrench may become the tool of last resort. I just really try not to need it. George -- =========================== georgercarrjr@earthlink.net

Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002 09:44:06 -0800 From: "Mike Kanaly" <mike@worklife.com> Subject: DoubleLocking? + Locking I'm new to the list, and new to m3's. Can someone explain the difference to me between locking, and double locking? Also, what the lock button does on the center console, next to the shifter? It locks all doors, but is that it? Or does it do something else? -Mike

#6. On Board Computer - from Mike Kanaly

Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002 09:46:20 -0800 From: "Mike Kanaly" <mike@worklife.com> Subject: On Board Computer Does anyone use the onboard computer functionality besides the mpg? I was all excited about it when I got the car, but I realize I haven't even been using it. What else can it do? Mine doesn't even come on when I start the car, as I have to hit one of the buttons to get it to come on. Is there a way so I can set it to come on when the car is started? Let me know! -Mike

I use the distance feature on trips, that totally kicks ass. More of a toy than a useful tool to me, but god it's an awesome toy! I agree, you must press a button to turn mine on as well. Have you tried programming your turn signal stalk to access the most frequently-used functions? - reid > Does anyone use the onboard computer functionality besides the mpg? The range is helpful for distances between fill-ups.
2. The trip distance thing (is it DIST?) neat and it's quite accurate - especially on longer rides.
3. The average speed is interesting - mostly because it's supposed to be more accurate than the speedo so if you want to know your "actual" speed, hit the speed button and the initial indicated speed should be your speed.

- John S.

Mike Kanaly <mike@worklife.com> wrote:
> Does anyone use the onboard computer functionality besides the mpg?
