It's not 100% accurate, but I track every fillup I do with a utility on my Palm, and it's pretty close. If my OBC says 19.4mpg, I might really be doing 19.95. OBC seems to read low up to about 20, then it reads a tad high I think. 25mpg becomes 24.5. I'm not sure, but it's pretty damn close. Plus, the Palm utility can only track it assuming I fill the tank to exactly where it started last time, which is a big assumption. - reid

Would anyone from the city (or near by) be interested in meeting up? For like lunch (dejeuner et biere?) or something. :-) Obligatory M3 Content: My splash shield fell off the other day finally. And without lifting up the car, I can't put it back on properly nor could I simply removing it, argh! So at 34k mi I'm finally having to replace this, what turned out to be a very expensive, piece of plastic... Or I may just get the aluminum JTD piece instead, who knows... :-) Phil 99 M3/2, x, ss, sharked, clear lens, out of commission (for now)

It fits perfectly and I've had a few stints up to about 160mph (indicated). Get the JTD shield and be done with it. It costs about the same as the factory plastic shield but lasts forever (at least 2 yrs and counting) :) -Bobby ----- Original Message ----- Obligatory M3 Content: My splash shield fell off the other day finally. Date: Fri, 08 Mar 2002 14:30:11 -0800 From: Steve Grigory <sgrigory@pacbell.net> Subject: Re: On Board Computer I use the 'Code' function pretty much whenever I park the car for any length of time. I also will use it when I go for a run. I don't want to carry the keys so I code the computer (without the code the car won't start) and then put the key in the trunk lock, turn it to lock the doors/trunk, then turn it back to unlock the trunk and then put the keys in the trunk. I figure the odds of anyone seeing the car locked and trying the trunk button are pretty low so I risk it. Also, when I code the car I only use one button for the code. It's much faster and a thief would have no idea you only used one button and most importantly if you screw up and don't notice it when you code the car there are very few combinations to go thru to unlock it when you get back and discover "oh shit I must have put the wrong number in." All this sounds convoluted, but it works very nicely. I originally had ordered a new M3 without the computer option, but now I'm glad I have it. steve -------------------- 6 -------------------- Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002 09:46:20 -0800 From: "Mike Kanaly" <mike@worklife.com> Subject: On Board Computer Does anyone use the onboard computer functionality besides the mpg? #8. Swap Strut "Hats" and Streetline Install - from Darling Christopher Maj AMC/CEXR

Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002 16:45:14 -0600 From: "Darling Christopher Maj AMC/CEXR" <Christopher.Darling-02@scott.af.mil> Subject: Swap Strut "Hats" and Streetline Install What's the story on this procedure? I have a '95 M3 (93K miles), and I'm about to install TC Kline's Streetline suspension. I've been counseled that now will be a good time to "swap the strut hats" while I'm in there working. Understand it increases the negative camber by 1/2 degree or so. Is this as straightforward as it sounds? Any "tricks" I need to know about? Any markings on the part that I need to look at to orient it properly? Anything else I should make sure to take care of during the suspension installation as long as I've got everything apart? I also intend to take care of my rear trailing arm bushings while I'm at it (or maybe before I put in the suspension.) I've seen the tech procedure at Bob T's site to do the trailing arm bushings--any tech procedures published out there for a Streetline install? TIA! Is this as straightforward as it sounds? Any On a '95M3, you have non offset bearing plates. There is no left or right. So swapping will do you no good. You'd have to get the '96+ M3 bearing plates and install those swapped if you want more negative camber. Do you track your car? If not, the increase in negative camber might do you any good over the stock '95 ones. New bearing plates are $85 each. > Anything else I should make sure to take care of during the suspension > installation as long as I've got everything apart? I also intend to take > care of my rear trailing arm bushings while I'm at it (or maybe before I put > in the suspension.) New OE rear trailing arm bushings are $15 each. I offer a tool rental if you're interested that speeds up the process from taking 3 - 4 hours down to under 1 hour.
