Then, spray with flat black engine enamel or something similar. I did mine this way and it looked great. -kit -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .

I bought my '97 M3/4 on a recent Friday in Chicagoland, hopped in it Saturday morning in Milwaukee, and headed for my home in New Mexico. I entered the estimated distance to my destination into the OBC and spent the whole day trying to get my ETA into the late PM hours of that day. Never got it earlier than 2:00 am on Sunday and had to spend the night at some godforsaken outpost in Texas (after about an 1100 mile drive) but it sure was fun to play with between high speed blasts between trucks, cranked-up CD's and a couple of good books-on-tape. I've got an extra helmet laying around gathering dust -- it's yours for $100 + shipping. New they go for around $249. Bell SR-PRO EC All-white (I removed all the stickers long ago) Size 7 1/2 (metric 60, Large) SA-95 (good with most driving / racing groups until 2005, maybe longer) Has a few eraser-size and smaller (very small) paint chips from hitting cages on entry and exit, overall in very good condition. I think I bought it in 1996 or 1997. Comes with a "fleece-lined" tote bag -- black or red, your choice. So, if you're looking for a helmet for when you want to to impress or scare your friends, significant other or boss on the track, this may be just the ticket. You can see it at http://www.pumpkininc.com/images/other/Bell-SR_PRO.jpg. You can find more information on Bell Helmets at the Bell Motorsports web site, http://www.bellmotorsports.com Contact me privately if you're interested. I'm in San Francisco. -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. Kalman, Ph.D. aek@pumpkininc.com

#4. Wheel vibration solved! - from Paul Elliott

Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002 20:07:54 -0500 From: "Paul Elliott" <elliott.paul@worldnet.att.net> Subject: Wheel vibration solved! Id like to relay my findings for those who are experiencing similar issues.... To recap, I ve been having a steering wheel vibration issue from the beginning with my motorsport forged ltwts and their pilot sports. Ive had the dealer and 2 other places tell me that the balancer had zeroed out before I drove away, and each time, it was still there. But this time I got smart....I found a Tire RAck recommended shop in scarsdale, who also happened to have one of those spiffy does-everything-cept-make-dinner Hunter GSP9700s, and was highly recommended by Hunter. You would have loved this guy...A 60ish Italian craftsman, who spoke perfect english with quite an excellent vocabulary...His shop was immaculate..I couldve eaten off the floor....He had about 6 mechanics all working on various types of american cars plus one alfa...There in one corner was a '66 XKE he was restoring for a friend from dust. But his equipment he was most proud of...Best hunter balancer, mounter, aligner....Loads of expensive adaptors, porshe specific wts at 45 bucks a small box, etc, etc. The guy truely loved his business, and had tons of pride....It was such a pleasure to find someone like this...Of course, he doesnt advertise, so it took me this long to find him...But now that I have, hes certainly getting all of my wheel/tire business...Moreover, he can almost meet Tirerack prices on tires, which is unheard of for an independant local. Anyway to make a long story short, he first checked my front two wheels and pilot sports, the same ones that came on the car, and naturally, they were way out of balance...Then the rears, which I just bought locally a few months ago...They showed over .75oz out of balance! As I said these were brand new a few mos ago from another local, who I thought was good simply because they didnt damage my rims! But clearly, thas only half the battle...The machine checked road force variation, and runout and the only thing wrong was balance, but I ve been told this before, right? But this machine didnt lie...It also balances down to .10 oz, whereas most go to just ..25oz, which might be ok for most cars , but not ours apparently...I headed for the nearest parkway, and took it right up to 80 mph...And, it was gone...Completely...The man was a genius...I had planned to buy one new front tire from that place that I got the 2 rears from tomorrow, not realizing evey tire they mount is mis balanced, figuring I had a bad belt or something. Im sold on this new shop, JC Auto Repair in Scarsdale NY..Both the owner and the equipment are top notch, and any of you in the area with similar vibration issues need to make an appt! I think youll be as impressed as I was. Checked the fluids and the gas cap and they're ok. The car drives just as it always has - no noticeable difference. How can I determine the cause? Is there a way I can get the diagnostics code or will I have to take it in to the dealer? It's a 97 M3/4. TIA...

Although really, that should be more like 1/4" or so. 3/4" sounds way to much for shock pressure, so double check the springs to make sure the are seated OK. Or possibly your original measurements were off a little?
