Date: Sat, 9 Mar 2002 01:23:20 -0600 From: "Robert Exconde" <99e36m3@exconde.com> Subject: RE: DoubleLocking? + Locking Double locking is done from the outside or from the remote key fob, basically it locks the car twice (dont know the mechanism) so it makes it harder to steal, cant jimmy the locks, and more importantly you cant even open the doors from the inside of the car!! so makesure there are no passengers in there when you lock the car. > lock button does on the center console, next to the shifter? It locks > all doors, but is that it? Or does it do something else? I think a lot of cars have door locks. even most american cars have one-button doorlocks. What did you expect it to do? Well... in addition it also acts as a NOS button after you hit 30MPH. So after you hit 30 it locks the car doors so you can jump out and then it does it injects the engine and wheeee!!! It's a 97 M3/4. TIA... Either go to the dealer, and independent BMW mechanic, or find someone local with a Peake Research code reading tool. Any one of those three can read the diagnostic code and determine what the fault is (was). If you're in the SF Bay Area, send me an email. You can use my code reader. Cheers, Jim Bassett

Ask someone with an early E36 or E30 :-) Our cars don't have a separate "double-locking" feature - see Bentley manual for reference, pages 515-7 & 515-8. >Also, what the >lock button does on the center console, next to the shifter? This allows you to be safe and secure inside while the very-dangerous gas station attendant fills your tank :-) (Seriously, I'm sure there's a good reason for the security feature, but since I've always pumped my own gas, it's lost on me.) Hope that helps, Jim Bassett
