#1. RE: DoubleLocking? + Locking - from Ron Buchalski
Top
Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2002 15:45:54 From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> Subject: RE: DoubleLocking? + Locking Think of "normal" (single) locking (sitting inside the car, and pushing down the lock button on the door, or the center console button), as locking the doorknob on your house. So, you use a key to enter the house, but can turn a little knob to unlock the door from inside. Think of double-locking as setting the deadbolt on the door of your house. Except THIS deadbolt doesn't have a lock cylinder or a lever inside the house, and can only be locked (and unlocked) from outside. Double-locking engages an additional mechanical lock inside the doors and trunk, so they can't be pried open. -rb >Date: Sat, 9 Mar 2002 01:23:20 -0600 >From: "Robert Exconde" <99e36m3@exconde.com> >Subject: RE: DoubleLocking? + Locking > >Double locking is done from the outside or from the remote key fob, >basically it locks the car twice (dont know the mechanism) so it makes it >harder to steal, cant jimmy the locks, and more importantly you cant even >open the doors from the inside of the car!! so makesure there are no >passengers in there when you lock the car. > _________________________________________________________________ Join the world's largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com

#3. Cleaning Wheels - from Mike Kanaly
Top
Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2002 08:44:39 -0800 From: "Mike Kanaly" <mike@worklife.com> Subject: Cleaning Wheels How do you guys clean your wheels? I have some very stubborn grease left on the outer rim of the wheels. I think its cause the dealer used that tire wet stuff, and now it's almost embedded in the wheel. Almost like waxed in. My best bet so far was simple green and a whole buncha white paper towels w/ elbow grease. There's gotta be an easier way to clean these when I wash my car. Does anyone have any better ideas on how to get the brake dust off? How about the brake grease off? Is simple green ok for the wheels finish? Let me know! Thanks! -Mike

#4. Detailing interior - from Mike Kanaly

Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2002 08:49:11 -0800 From: "Mike Kanaly" <mike@worklife.com> Subject: Detailing interior Ok, I bought the Leather Conditioner and Leather Cleaner. When I was detailing the interior of the car for the first time this weekend, I noticed a dilemma. What exactly is Leather in the interior of our cars, and what is plastic/vinyl? I believe leather is just the seats, handbrake, shift boot, and door inserts, is that correct? And then the dash, and the rest of the doors are plastic/vinyl? Here's how I did it, does this sound right? Dash, Door = Armor all Door inserts, seats, handbrake, shift boot = Leather Cleaner + Cond Let me know! -Mike

#8. Went with SSR Integrals and S-03s - from David Ripton
Top
Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2002 12:57:54 -0500 From: David Ripton <dripton@wizard.net> Subject: Went with SSR Integrals and S-03s Thanks to everyone who emailed me about wheels and tires. Some of them were off-list, so I'll summarize in case anyone else cares. Andrew said that he uses 17x8 SSR Integrals on all four corners with Yok 032s and there are no fit issues, and that the poor drainage that he's mentioned before is the only caveat. Chris likes his 17x9 Integrals. But agrees that they're too big to meet my easy-fit rule, and 17x8 would be better for me. Mike said a sales rep steered him to BBS RKs over Integrals based on strength. This may be a valid point (the RK *looks* stronger, and it's heavier, and BBS has a good reputation), but I like the Integrals a lot better than the RKs, and I haven't heard horror stories about the SSRs being super-weak. Virginia and Maryland roads are pretty good, and we usually take the Maxima into pothole minefields like DC or the northeast. So I'll risk it. Reed agreed that 5-spokes were much easier to clean than 10-spokes and said he'd buy Fikse FM5s over FM10s if he had it to do over again. (I'd buy FM5s too, if they were cheaper.) He asked about the drainage problem. Here's the thread: http://www.bmw-m.net/digest/archive%5F2001%5F05%20digest%201217%2D1337/digest1325.htm http://www.bmw-m.net/digest/archive%5F2001%5F05%20digest%201217%2D1337/digest1326.htm I went with the 17x8 Integrals and 235/40-17 Bridgestone S-03 PPs. Thanks again for the bandwidth and assistance. -- David Ripton dripton@wizard.net

#9. JTD Splash Shield Question - from Philip
Top
Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2002 09:59:02 -0800 From: Philip <estorilphil@highstream.net> Subject: JTD Splash Shield Question Hello all... The plastic splash shield recently decided that it wants to go its separate way. So I removed the shield. Only thing was, I had to remove the two little splash shield/flaps directly in front of the front wheels. So my question is this: Does the JTD aluminum replacement shield replaces those two little flaps as well? If not, then I may have to get them from the local dealer. Or does it only replace that center piece? And is there a local source (to Southern California) that I could get this? TIA... :-) Phil
