#1. Front Strut tower durability - List poll - from AVUSM3@aol.com
Top
Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2002 13:23:16 EST From: AVUSM3@aol.com Subject: Front Strut tower durability - List poll To all with significant track time and stiffer than stock suspensions: Do you feel that the front strut towers need some type of reinforcement to withstand significant track time with a suspension setup that is stiffer than stock (ie Bilstein's, or coilovers)? My car has 15+ track days on it currently. I am considering putting a Motorsport front strut tower brace on to help distribute loads on the front shock towers (not for aesthetics). Any input is appreciated. Thanks, John Cloutier home.attbi.com/~avusm3

I use Lexol Vinylex - less glossy-looking. Cheers, Jim Bassett

#4. Go-Kart Event - from Mark Radelow
Top
Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2002 18:49:26 +0000 From: "Mark Radelow" <radelow@hotmail.com> Subject: Go-Kart Event Hi everyone, Mark Radelow here. I have organized a Go-Karting event for June 1, 2002 at Amago Raceway (http://www.go-karting.com) here in San Diego. The cost for the event is $250 and includes everything (kart, tracktime, lunch, awards). You will get a minimum of 50 laps during the day (more like 55-60). This will be a full raceday event with practice sessions, qualifying and racing. Doesn't matter if you are a beginner or experienced. Originally we were going to run 100cc centrifugal clutch karts but I just found out that we are going to be running 125cc centrifugal clutch karts. According to the track owner these karts are running withing 1 second of the full-on shifter-karts. So it's going to be exciting. This is a full on kart track that is about 1/2 mile long. You will get a full printout of all your laptimes by the end of the day. All you need to bring is long sleeve shirt and pants and a helmet if you have one. This event is initially open to LA Chapter members and all BMWCCA members and guests. If you are interested please let me know. Thanks guys! Is simple > green ok for > the wheels finish? Should be OK, although like I mentioned, I generally just use the car shampoo that I'm using on the rest of the car. And I use a wheel brush, which seems to work well. But what really seems to work well is after the wheels are clean, put a coat of wax on them. Either the same wax I use on the car, or Sonax Motorcycle Spray Wax. Cheers, Jim Bassett

Here's how I did it, does this sound right? Dash, Door = Armor all Door inserts, seats, handbrake, shift boot = Leather Cleaner + Cond Mike, I believe you're right about the leather/vinyl mix. (I'm also open to correction though.) As for the plastic/vinyl, the only thing I'd do is avoid the Armor all. Lot's of horror stories about it actually breaking down the material and resulting in a rogain sort of cycle that requires more and more Armor all, and if you stop, the rubber/plastic/vinyl breaks down. I'm sure it's not as bad as people say, but most agree Lexol's Vinylex is a much better product. I think so - it doesn't "shine" as much and it supposedly has UV protection in it. - John S. <hr>

What I've heard is that the Turn 10-12 section is re-opened, but the Carousel won't be used due to construction. We get to use the Chute instead. Yipee (not - the race car hooks up soooo well in the Carousel). It ought to be interesting (even by NASA standards :-)). See you there. Jim Bassett

#8. Detailing interior - from Dorffer, Rich

I assume you meant the Leather Conditioner and Leather Cleaner from Leatherique. If this is the case, then that is what I use and recommend. If not, I am not sure what you are using as there are about +200 different companies that make leather conditioner and cleaner products. On my 95 M3, the door inserts are not leather but I do believe they are leather starting in 1996, someone else can confirm this. Also, alacantera (sic?) interiors have no leather (except for the suede) ;-) > Here's how I did it, does this sound right? > Dash, Door = Armor all > Door inserts, seats, handbrake, shift boot = Leather Cleaner + Cond I personally would not use Armol All on anything on my car, including the dash or the tires. This stuff is awful, known to deteriorate plastic and rubber, and I hate the results (too shiny). I prefer products by Pinnacle for plastic care or even Lexol Vinylx (sic?) and Mequiers tire gel for tire care. There are other decent products out there, all of them better than Armor All. Otherwise, I do what you said. See Larry Reynolds at http://www.carcareonline.com for help (we don't agree on everything but most of what he says and sells is spot on).
