Felt like shot shocks. So, to get an opinion, I took it to Herb Chambers BMW (Boston, MA). The service technician Steve Carroll, was happy to look at my car. He let me in the shop with him and we diagnosed it together. Faulty shocks it sure was. He even adjusted my front bumper which was slightly off, inspected the bushings, looking around for leaks etc etc. He happens to have a 95 M3 with a few mods.=20 =20 He was really helpful and I got a great personalized service. He loves our cars and owns one of ours too. Comes in recommended if you live around the area.=20 =20 Ahmad A. Lutfeali =20 =20 =20 =20

On my race car, I installed the Konis with a flat washer and a Nylock nut which has an external diameter of 19mm. Works very well. If you want to get exotic, you can buy a Grade 10 "speed nut" from a race supply shop with the same internal diameter and thread pitch, but a thinner wall. These are used on Indy cars suspensions and cost around $9.00 per nut. Date: Wed, 13 Mar 2002 10:28:32 -0500 From: morris.michael@adlittle.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Front Strut tower durability Paul, I think that the rear shock towers are very prone to fatigue if the RSM's are worn. I had a RSM that was completely blown, and the constant "clunking" of the RSM resulted in the shock tower completely failing due to repetitive hammering from the blown RSM. Also, all the abuse chipped away at the paint which led to corrosion, but the final verdict was failure due to fatigue rather than rust/corrosion. I had the new shock tower replaced (welded in) by a very reputable independent body shop in the Boston area and was only charged ~$320.00. That included the undercoating and painting. I pulled the carpet back to expose the tower and told them I would put it back to save money. Looks brand new. Local BMW dealer expected to charge me about $1000.00. #11. Need a good source for spare brake parts - from Vern Anderson
Top
Date: Wed, 13 Mar 2002 11:44:54 -0500 From: "Vern Anderson" <vernon_anderson@yahoo.com> Subject: Need a good source for spare brake parts Hello all, Does anyone know a good source for brake caliper guide pins, spring clips and pistons? In addition to the usual brake rebuilds that I do 2-3 times per year, in prep for this track season I'm completely rebuilding my brakes and replacing most of the components. I can get the guide pins and spring clips parts from the local dealer(s), but they mark up the cost on that stuff quite a bit. I can't find replacement pistons anywhere. Mine are probably OK, but I was hoping to find a source in case I have to replace them. I'd love to get some stainless steel ones, but nobody seems to stock them anymore. Also, if anyone has a good source (or has a new and unused set around) of DOT stainless steel lines for an E36M3, let me know. I was planning on the Goodrich ones, but I'm open to suggestions. Thanks, any advice is appreciated. Vern Anderson 98 M3/2
