It jumped $300/yr to almost $2k. All 3 cars and the house are through Farmer's because I've always gotten good service, but this seems out of line. It might be time to move my policies - what are other NorCal folks paying for 120D Comp & 500D Collision? No at-fault accidents since I was 18, no claims except a few windshields, no tickets that weren't covered by traffic school. #3. Radar & Speeding - from McCarthy, Brian

Date: Wed, 13 Mar 2002 17:58:48 -0800 From: "McCarthy, Brian" <Brian.McCarthy@intermec.com> Subject: Radar & Speeding With the recent talk of x band and k band radar, let me expand band to "laser". Does anyone know if the laser guns use an infrared or visible laser? Are the laser-based speed guns detectable to the human eye at night? On my dark nighttime commute home, I can't see if there's a trooper sitting in their well known "hiding places" in the interstate median until I'm almost upon them. It's too dark. Would the laser show up as a flickering? Just curious. Brian '95 M3, lowered, chipped, upgraded - but no radar detector. Seattle Wa.

Date: Wed, 13 Mar 2002 21:54:06 EST From: Carguymb@aol.com Subject: Re: How to install X-brace nutserts Mike, I have a nutsert installation tool you can borrow for free if you're local, or buy/rent if you're not. It's a basic hand tool from McMaster-Carr Supply, but it worked for me. Let me know if you're interested. I'm in the Philly 'burbs. And to answer a couple of other questions, you do need to drill out the holes (and preferably chamfer them), and the subframe is a box section, so there's no rear access to use regular nuts. I use Liberty Mutual for all. I haven't gotten my renewal rates yet but I'm currently paying $735 for my 98 M3/4 and $533 for my 95 540i. These are for 12 months. Coverage is 250,000/500,000 Liability$250 deductible comp and $500 deductible collision. Also includes the usual uninsured motorist coverage. Discounts include all those you have. I also, through Costco, got an even lower quote from American Express Insurance. I'm waiting to see my renewal rates before deciding. Rates are based on Santa Rosa location. Best regards, Bob Smith

Visable light would, as you say, be too easy to detect at a distance at night. Plus visable light might be considered a hazard if you compound the "Oh Crap!" factor of seeing a cop with being blinded by a bright light at night. Not that there's enough energy to actually blind you but it could be distracting. -Matt --- "McCarthy, Brian" <Brian.McCarthy@intermec.com> wrote: > > With the recent talk of x band and k band radar, let > me expand band to > "laser". It was F0 which translates to "Misfire detected - Cylinder 3". No other fault codes. Approximately 36 hours before the check engine light came on, I filled up on gas. Maybe I got some bad fuel? The car drove fine after leaving the station. I didn't drive it the next day but the following morning is when the check engine light came on.
