This topic has been discussed before and out of curteosy, not to be discussed until Monday or Tuesday to let the others have a chance to watch the race if they recorded it. I don't necessarily agree with this as I make sure I'm home to watch it and if I can't, I record it and stay off the lists and avoid my motorsports fans like the plague until I have a chance to watch the race myself. Some have put disclaimers on the subject so people can avoid those e-mails with F1 results. BTW... It was a great race. There's actually some good racing throughout the pack. We can discuss more tomorrow <g> -Bobby

This is actually a standard procedure on a hockey list I'm. Especially for East Coast games that start at 4:30 Pacific time. Most people are at work & tape the game for viewing later that evening. With many of us being track junkies (guilty :-)), we are required to tape the races. Avoiding email & other reports of the race certainly help, but a little courtesy on the part of posters helps too. That way one can save the posts and enjoy them later, without having the results of the race spoiled. (Heck, I already know the results of the SSF-sponsored drivers in the SPEED WC Touring race at Sebring. Hopefully I'll forget by the time the race is aired on the 30th :-)) > BTW... It was a great race. There's actually some good racing > throughout the > pack. We can discuss more tomorrow <g> Makes one wish for inverted-grid starting :-) Cheers, Jim Bassett

You should be able to search the archives. #4. Facom knock-offs - from Chip Mitchell
Top
Date: Mon, 18 Mar 2002 23:22:36 -0500 From: "Chip Mitchell" <chipm@arches.uga.edu> Subject: Facom knock-offs Excuse the length and borderline content of this email - its nearly irrelevant except that many of you work on your own cars and Facom is discussed somewhat regularly... I stopped by Harbor Freight for the first time today and found an incredible knock-off of the Facom Palm-Control ratchet. No manufacturer is named on the tool, but the tag says Pittsburgh, who makes all of the sockets, wrenches, etc sold at Harbor Freight. The thing is very nice - looks identical to the Facom, with the exceptions of the red stripe being replaced with two smaller ones and the "Facom" logo on the shaft becoming "Chrome Vanadium Taiwan." Has all of the bells and whistles including 72 tooth mechanism and thumb wheel on freewheeling hub. Since I'm of the mind that good (not great) tools don't necessarily have to be expensive (yes, I know many of you disagree) and I was in the market for a 1/2" ratchet I decided to spend the $8.99 and try one out. Comparison with my Craftsman 3/8" ratchet does not disappoint. The Facom (oops, Pittsburgh) is much more substantial, more comfortable to use, has a much more precise feel in the ratchet mechanism, and cost a little over half as much. We'll see how it holds up... Thought I'd mention this for value-minded tool shoppers out there. I don't see this ratchet on the Harbor Freight website yet, but I'll post pics in the next couple of days if anyone is interested. Does anyone have any idea if Facom has some interest in Pittsburgh? I know Harbor Freight sells some SK stuff, so I'm wondering if they're knocking their own wrench off or someone has made a great copy. M3 content: The real reason I stopped at Harbor Freight, other than the fact that I was in the area, is to buy some spring compressors for my upcoming Ground Control coilover install. More on that to follow... ChipM

Date: Tue, 19 Mar 2002 10:53:01 -0500 From: "Perry Shang" <scsi_one@hotmail.com> Subject: <FS> CD-Changer for sale Hi, all - I took off my CD changer. It is off from my 95 325is. It will work with 95 5 series and 95 build date M3. If you have the old BMW head unit (95 and before), press (-) and (program) to see which head unit you have. This changer is specifically for Alpine 5 head unit. You can not get aftermarket replacement as the protocol is totally different from others. It comes with CD Changer, 1 magazine (6 disks), metal brackets and bolts. Please email for picture if interested. I am asking $200 plus shipping. Or if you live in South East Michigan, I will deliver it personally and install it for you. Thanks for the bandwidth, and sorry for the cross post. Perry. BWMCCA: ///Motorcity

#9. Alarm System Choice? - from Johnny Lee

Date: Tue, 19 Mar 2002 12:13:30 -0500 From: Johnny Lee <mclee@ieee.org> Subject: Alarm System Choice? Hi, I just got a 98 M3/4 and it doesn't come with keyless entry and alarm system. I was thinking about installing the factory unit since the car is pre-wired for it. Is it a a good choice or is there a better aftermarket alternative in terms of price/feature/ease of installation? And if I do go with the BMW unit, is it better to buy it from the dealer or is there a better place to get it? Thanks for any input on this subject. -Johnny mailto:mclee@ieee.org

#10. Remote Locking range problem - from Miles Hayes
Top
Date: Tue, 19 Mar 2002 18:53:06 +0000 From: "Miles Hayes" <hayesmiles@msn.com> Subject: Remote Locking range problem My 95 M3 is equipped with factory alarm/remote locking. The problems I have is with the range of the remote. When the weather is cold I am able to lock/unlock the car from 50 feet away or more. In the spring/ summer when the temperature inside the car is warm the range on the remote is very short. Sometimes in the heat of the summer I have to hold the remote very near the windshield to get the car to lock or unlock. Has anyone had this problem or have a solution to this problem?
