Suzy's last M3 had those rims on it at one time, polished if memory serves me right. What's wrong with the LUX? I have one, so there ;P. Those things are POS that require rebuilding at great cost. Just an FYI. Also notice the check engine light it on, it has those ugly rims, and it appears to be a luxury addition...Ugh. Back in the late '80's, that was how the inspection techs could verify that you hadn't pulled the bulb out of the check engine light on the dash. Note in the picture that the tach reads "0" and the oil pressure light is on as well. -Mel -----Original Message----- From: Sue Kraft [mailto:suekraft@new.rr.com] Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2002 1:53 PM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] supercharged '97 M3 on ebay Date: Tue, 26 Mar 2002 13:55:21 -0600 From: Sue Kraft <suekraft@new.rr.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] supercharged '97 M3 on ebay Yes, it is a Powerdyne supercharger and the owner of the car installed it himself. Don't know if that's good or bad. The guy who put the car on Ebay is a broker and doesn't actually own the car, just trying to sell it for his friend. I did see the check engine light on in the picture.....had plenty of those when the Mechtech turbo was on my M3 and it always meant trouble. I'll have to do a little more thinking on this one.... I > check mine with the engine warm and running, and keep it at the top > of the factory range. Warm and RUNNING? wow, I never tried that. Stupid supercharger dumps oil down the dipstick tube, if I check it running, the dipstick says about 80 quarts overfull. ;) I would think that there is significantly more oil at full when the engine is running... > Just an FYI. Also notice the check engine light it on, it has those ugly > rims, and it appears to be a luxury addition...Ugh. Um... guys? the engine is off, but the key is in the on position. Of course the check engine light is on. ;) Look at the tach. Of course, this always makes me laugh... does BMW think that US drivers are so dumb that they can't figure out that the engine is not running? "Um, Honey... I tried to go, and the car is really quiet and the RPMs are at zero... but it must be alright, because the little engine light thingie ain't on..." [ purposely left ambisextrous, as to not offend anyone... ] And furthermore... Luxury package M3s can be fast, too! My 4 door weighs 3250 lbs, and has almost 300 rwhp. :) -kit -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .

No big deal.

What's the longevity of the replaceable insert? I have to replace mine and have seen recommendations to use RSM's from a convertible and also a rec to use RSM's from an E46. What's the best?

At the time, there were no other choices as I recall, and the 2 types of bushings available with the JTD RSMs made them suitable for just about any application (still true to some extent today). >If so how do they compare with stock units as far as ride quality, noise >transmission, and/or effect on the shock towers? I noticed a small amount of additional harshness, but nothing drastic (heck, I may have even imagined it <g>). And it has been nearly 3 years, so anything that was there I'm more than used to. >What's the longevity of the replaceable insert? I used the softer, street bushings. Still seem fine as of the last visual inspection. >I have to replace mine and have seen recommendations to use RSM's from a >convertible and also a rec to use RSM's from an E46. What's the best? "Best" is kinda hard to define, without knowing the application; street use, mix of street/track, track-only? My 2 cents: - For street use on a stock-suspended car, the E46 RSM should suffice. - For street & track use, stock or modified suspension, I'd go with the JTD RSM, with the appropriate bushing (street:stock, track:modified) - For track use (assuming a modified suspension <g>), JTD RSM w/track bushings. The race car currently has the E46 RSMs. I need to check to make sure I still have the "track" bushings for the JTDs, and if so, I'll be swapping RSMs between the 2 cars. See points 1 & 3 above; the M3 is now a street-only car. As always, these are IMO. I'd be happy to hear other alternatives as well, for both cars, especially before I start swapping parts <g>. And Mark, since you're in the Bay Area, you're welcome to try out the M3, before I swap out the JTDs :-) Email me privately if you want to arrange a test drive. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone tried Hwy 25 and 198? Are they passable or will they just beat the crud out of my car? Just thinking about taking all of next friday off and trying to make the trip south more enjoyable. Alternatively, does anyone want to hook up for the drive down, perhaps someone with a V1! jeff bored at work today and playing around with map software
