I presume that in the future, any time you re-torque one wheel you'll re-torque them ALL, right? <bg> >This past weekend was the most amazing time that I've ever experienced in >motorsports. It was great to put faces with the >names of the infamous racers (Collet, Zilinsky, Hull, Warren, Akard, etc.) >as well as become a part of the camaraderie of Club Racing. I agree whole-heatedly with this. This is one of the great things I've found about Club Racing as well. There's great competition on the track, but also a great sense of friendship & camaraderie both in the track & in the paddock. If you are thinking of going Club Racing in the future, I highly recommend getting involved NOW. Go as a spectator, offer to help crew for a friend who's racing, whatever. But getting involved early, seeing what goes on will really help IMO once you make the decision to go racing. And you alluded to it a bit: it's nothing like a DE/school. For me, I not only like the competition with the other racers, but also the competition with myself. Always trying to improve, learning something new each time out. They really have poor lumbar support and my (already bad) back could not tolerate the seats. The BMW lumbar supports solved the problem and I am very pleased with them. I ran the second group purchase for the power lumbar supports. The kit is expensive. Our group purchase shaved about $200 from the BMW suggested list price. Unfortunately the parts supplier that we used no longer does group purchases. I sent Jonathan (privately) additional information on the part number, our price, and installation instructions that I developed from experiences of our group and those from the first group purchase. Looks fun! ;-) Makes me wonder if I should wait until I find a smokin' deal on lighter seats that happen to have lumbar support in them already. Definitely doesn't sound like something I could do quickly in the few hours of daylight after work. Might be a fun late-spring project though. Thanks for the replies and info (especially Wayne, Steve and Chester). Jonathan L. >From: "S. Does this thing just pull off with a firm tug like the knob, or is there something I am missing here?? Input appreciated. Thanks, DB

#8. Slipping Auto Trans?? - from Chris Salter

Date: Thu, 28 Mar 2002 22:24:20 -0800 (PST) From: Chris Salter <errsomeone@yahoo.com> Subject: Slipping Auto Trans?? All, Could you please help me diagnose a problem with an automatic trans, I know nothing about these. It seems that shifting from 1->2 it will hesitate for about 3 seconds before engaging the gear. This happens more when the car has been sitting for awhile, and does not happen all the time. However, this still happens when sport mode is enabled, or manually selecting gears. It seems to start just fine from a start, but shifting into the next gear the problem will occur. This also does NOT happen on any other gear changes. The car has ~94k and was previously taken to the dealer for all service, but not well taken care of otherwise. I have considered the oil, but this was supose to have been changed recently. However, I have yet to verify this. Also, there are not any fault codes. Any ideas? Thanks - Chris __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! #10. [E36M3] Laguna Seca in May? - from twisty M3

I shouldn't really be considering it, but I can't help thinking that you only live once, it IS Laguna Seca, which I've never driven before (in real-life anyway) and it's a little less expensive than other schools I've seen ($520). A few more familiar names attending and I'm sure I can sell myself on this (since I have to get my check out today by Fed Ex to get into the April 1 lottery). Chime in... Who's in the lotto? #11. Looking for Trouble - from The Buch
Top
Date: Fri, 29 Mar 2002 08:33:17 -0800 From: The Buch <the_buch@telus.net> Subject: Looking for Trouble Having in place the E46 RSMs, BMW x-brace and UUC front strut tower bar, and now recently replacing springs (H&R OEs), struts/shocks (Koni SAs), and tires (S-03s), and re-aligning the car a couple of times to find the right spot, I am still not happy. My car just seems dangerously 'twitchy' in certain situations, particularly on ridgey or uneven pavement at higher speeds where I really get pushed around. Of course, I was expecting to have to do a bit more work as a driver due to moving from the stock configuration, but it just seems like I am missing something else which is simply wrong. This is a '99 M3 with 50,000 miles. Is there something simple I can do to observe or test the condition of other critical suspension components and bushings?? Perhaps this is as good as it gets when compromising from the stock setup in the name of performance?? Thanks, Doug
