Date: Mon, 1 Apr 2002 08:18:49 -0600 From: bmwm3nut@att.net Subject: rear diff carrier HELP!!!! I have fallen and I can't get up!!! NO, just kidding, I am at a impass with removal of my rear diff. carrier. I have 2 questions #1.- I removed the 6 nuts on my drive shaft directly in front of my diff. I read the Bentley and it said that there is a U-jonit, BUT my car 4/94 does not have a u- joint there. It has these 6 nuts and bolts and it bolts the diff. to the drive shaft via a round coupler looking thing. There is NO rear u-joint right in front of the diff? How do I seperate the diff and the drive shaft after I removed thses 6 nuts? The 6 bolts seems to stay in place. I wonder if when I lower the diff carrier, am I suppose to slide back and the diff will slide back off these 6 bolts? #2. I removed the 2 rear diff carrier BOLTs 18mm, those came out no problem and the rear diff carrier is now loose off the body BUT the front 2 carier NUTs, do I push the bolts back up inside the car? They are really on there. From my E30 experience, you have to use a hammer to pound it back up inside the body. Is this correct? I pulled the rear seat and I see there are 2 SEALED caps, 1 on each side of the car, seems to be where these 2 bolts would come from the bottom of the car. They are sealed with wax/glue. Are these the location of where the bolt comes from underneath? I need to remove this thing today to get it over to a shop. I can be reach @ 404-630-6069 today (monday, I have today off). -- Tim Ng 95 YELA/BUZZN/M3 (POWERFLEX SOON, HOPEFULLY) 92 325ic M-Tech "ULTIMATE TANNING MACHINE" 91///M3 "SUNNY DAY CAR" 88///M3 "TRACK CAR" SICK ENGINE ------------------------------------------------ Get the award winning ISP, AT&T WorldNet Service http://download.att.net/webtag

If you drive hard at all, you will eat these tires up in not time flat. Compared the S-03's, the Rosso's slide more, they wear faster, and they have less grip overall. The Pirelli's advantages are that they're considerably lighter and they offer very good road feel. I'd go with the Bridgestone's any day of the week. -peterg ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com

#4. FYI - Cheap 235/40/17 tires at Tire Rack - from Vern Anderson

Date: Mon, 1 Apr 2002 13:02:35 -0600 From: Vern Anderson <vernon_anderson@yahoo.com> Subject: FYI - Cheap 235/40/17 tires at Tire Rack Hello all, I was looking around today online for some new street tires and saw Tire Rack has a closeout sale on 235/40ZR-17 Dunlop SP Sport W-10 for $86.00. I have no personal experience with these tires as far as performance, but since I use race tires for all my serious driving and snow tires in the winter, I really don't care too much and ordered a set. I just needed a reasonably competent 17" street tire for daily driving. Some of the online reviews on TireRack said they were kinda noisy, but my exhaust should drown out anything serious <g>. Just an FYI if anyone was looking for some cheap name-brand street tires and had similar criteria as me. $86 is a damn good price...... Vern 98 M3/2 No affiliation with Tire Rack, although I should be a stockholder based on the amount of money I've spent there <g>

#7. Supercharger Software take 2 - from HYPERM3@aol.com
Top
Date: Mon, 1 Apr 2002 16:57:28 -0600 From: HYPERM3@aol.com Subject: Supercharger Software take 2 So I just got off the phone with Osh from Race Marque Systems. Turns out that on top of the software, I need bigger injectors and a signal charger that replaces some knob control thing I already have. Graciously all will be traded with parts I have plus a few more $$$. About 500 more $ than expected. Apparently the 24lb injectors I already have aren't like the 35lb injectors needed for the software and the ARCII air/fuel controller I already have isn't like the signal charger I now need. Can somebody help me make sense of this? For anyone out there considering forced induction - unless the car comes from the factory with it, don't do it! #8. New E36 Water Pump from BMW - Plastic? - from Michael Wylie
Top
Date: Mon, 1 Apr 2002 18:50:58 -0600 From: Michael Wylie <mdwylie@ix.netcom.com> Subject: New E36 Water Pump from BMW - Plastic? I called the Dealer in San Rafael, CA (Sonnen) to confirm they have the water pump, thermostat, etc in stock as I am going to replace these components. Main cause is the thermostat was stuck open. Upon removal, I found that one of the two "arms" that hold the spring assembly to the main housing had literally broken off. Thankfully the other arm held all the parts together. Main point is the dealer said the original plastic impeller was replaced with a unit that had a metal impeller ... BUT ... then BMW replaced the metal one with an upgraded plastic impeller unit. Has anyone heard of this new plastic unit? I sure would like to know what this is about before I lay money on the counter. Thanks in advance! Michael Wylie 95 M3 Novato, CA

Michael, I've heard the same thing about the plastic impellers making a comeback. I wouldn't trust it. I would order from the usual mail order places rather than go to a local dealer. You can find a water pump with the metal impeller and you'll probably get a better price too. Also, while you're going after the thermostat, you might want to get the aluminium housing rather than the plastic one. I got mine at Eurasian for about $17 (about the same as the plastic BMW part). They should also carry all the parts you're looking for, including the metal impeller water pump and all the gaskets you'll need. I'd recommend using Redline Water Wetter in your coolant mix. 1 bottle should be enough. The Bentley manual states that you should replace the tstat housing when replacing the tstat which is why I recommend the aluminium piece. Good luck. -Bobby ps. Did you guys know that you can pick up Redline Water Wetter at your local Pep Boys? Damn damn damn. ----- Original Message ----- > > I called the Dealer in San Rafael, CA (Sonnen) to confirm they have the > water pump, thermostat, etc in stock as I am going to replace these > components.
