I still find the Pilot Sports that came originally with my car as a superior, albeti pricey, tire. One of the major problems I've had with the Pirellis has been the inability to balance them properly and a vibration is transmitted through the steering wheel at around 60MPH. Their wet traction is impressive but otherwise, I don't find them to have much in terms of feedback. I'm going to the first track weekend this Friday and I'm going to use these Pirelli streets as opposed to my R compounds to see how they behave on the track, albeit an unfamiliar one. I would be tempted to try the S03s next, a tire that I'm recommending my brother to try on his Porsche Boxster S. Its price is similar to the Pirellis and I've heard very good feedback. As another alternative for you to consider, local club members have been raving about the Toyo T1S. They seem to love the feel and response of the tire and even for the occassional track work, they've proven their mettle. Last but not least, the Toyos seem to be priced very competitively. That's my $.02... Roy '99 M3/2 >Hi all, > >I am in need to replace my worn tires. Very tight, much less play than before, easy to shift and not a lot of notchiness. It does rattle occasionally (everything is tight so I'm not sure what is rattling) but overall I think it's wonderful. As I understand it, it's basically the same as the UUC except that it comes with a modified carrier so that you don't have to modify your stock one to get into reverse. -Matt --- Mark Kern <markkern@cox.net> wrote: > Date: Wed, 3 Apr 2002 06:33:47 -0800 > From: "Mark Kern" <markkern@cox.net> > Subject: Rogue Engineering Short Shifter > > Has anyone tried the E36 short-shifter from > www.rogueengineering.com? #6. Shark Question - from Chuck Hanson

Date: Wed, 3 Apr 2002 08:20:52 -0700 From: Chuck Hanson <chuckh@dpsabq.com> Subject: Shark Question I have a '97 M3/4 and have been thinking about buying a Shark Injector. I'm looking for some real world opinions/experiences about using this thing on an OBDII car. I live at high altitude (5,400 feet) and already have a Remus exhaust on it. My biggest problem is that I have driven the car at sea level and really miss the way it feels when I get back home in the high desert. Do these things really make a noticeable difference in power (and I'm not really talking about the advantages of raising the rev limit by a few hundred RPM or removing the top speed limiter) and are they worth the money? Thank you in advance. Chuck Hanson Albuquerque, NM

My experience. More power - yes, but I'm at only about 500 ft. Can't translate to high desert feel. Best feature - doesn't stall in cold weather (below 30 deg. F) because of over lean factory setting. Next best feature - about 5 more mph before the busstopp at Watkins Glen, stronger acceleration. Worth it - to me yes. Not sure how this could have happened since Chester has NEVER even inquired about our brake kit. An improperly bled braking system would make ANY braking system (stock or upgraded) have horrible pedal feel. Such was the case with one particular customer of ours, but since knowing how to properly bleed a Brembo caliper, all is working as normal. If you have specific questions about how a Brembo caliper should be bled, or even specific details about our brake kit, we invite you to educate yourself on our website. We have brake bleeding information posted on our tech tips. http://www.rogueengineering.com Regards, Ben Liaw Rogue Engineering . 201.444.8150

Chester, It is NO secret that you have 'issues' with Ben Liaw and love to take potshots at his products. But, this time you are waaaaaaaaaaay off base though. The kit RE sells is the same (basically) as the one TMS sells and it works very well. Do you think Will Turner would sell a 'dangerous' brake kit? Knowing Ben, he would not either. Also, I have the ECIS BBK kit, which is very similar (different calipers) and it works great for street and track. Pedal feel is excellent and braking is greatly improved and the fade factor is pretty much eliminated. I can't imagine that the RE or TMS kits would be that much different than the ECIS kit, seeing they share almost all the same parts. I don't know who's car you drove, but don't you think it is possible that the system was not bled correctly. What did the owner say about the kit, since he ownes the car and has to use the brakes everyday? Come drive my car sometime and then tell me what you think. ===== Jake Tiggersman 95 M3 UUC Comp Evo SS ECIS BBK AA Gen III Exhaust __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I recently installed the RE short shifter in my '95 M3 club racer. It is my first experience with any short shifter and I am very impressed. I felt that some short shifter companies' only goal was to make the throw as short as possible which many times resulted in extreme notchiness. The RE shifter doesn't go to the extreme, but rather about 75% of the extreme in terms of shortening the throw. The result is a very smooth shifter with a considerably shorter throw than stock even with a shift lever that is very close in length (if not the same) as the stock shifter. In my relentless pursuit to avoid a mechanical overrev due to a misshift, during the same time that I installed the RE shifter, I also installed a couple of other items including Group N motor mounts, UUC's Tranny Enforcers and UUC's Rob Knob Magnum in SS. Since the car was completed last month, I have spent over 8 hours on the track at Texas Motor Speedway and it has performed flawlessly. Very, very happy. Not sure how this could have > happened since Chester has NEVER even inquired about our brake kit. So exactly what am I misinformed about? The fact that you guys use E46M3 rotors? Nope...I think I'm correct on that. The fact that the calipers were originally designed for 32mm rotors? Nope...heard from the customer when he asked you what rotors were meant to be in there. Apparently 32mm came directly from your mouth. So what happens when pads get real worn? Actually, what happens when you want to buy replacement pads? The people at Performance Friction suggest that the profile of the backing plate necessitates that you need pads from a BMW 840. They also only had 3 sets of PF90s in stock and weren't planning on making any additional units. ...and my friend grabbed two out of the 3 sets. I guess you can always have the manufacturers take your old pads and slap on some race compound on there. While they're at it, I guess you can always tell them to add 2mm more of pad material. > An improperly bled braking system would make ANY braking system (stock or > upgraded) have horrible pedal feel. Such was the case with one particular > customer of ours, but since knowing how to properly bleed a Brembo caliper, > all is working as normal. I actually didn't drive his car when it was at its worse. We have since then bled the brakes a bunch of times even following your advice to bleed the inside nipple first and then the outside. I think I even told the person at the calipers to then go back inside and then go back outside just to be real sure. The outcome? Better, but not as good as my front and rear movit brakes.
