Clay works well, except for the wheels. But remember you are slowly _sanding_ the clear coat away. I would not try to remove every speck, every Saturday. > Chuck ??? from Zymol first suggested the clay for removal. > His opinion was that the exhaust was the culprit - he > thought a completely stainless steel > exhaust would solve the problem. He's wrong. Does he also sell exausts? My 1987 Audi Coupe and all E36 M3s have SS exhausts. My E36M3 has had the stock muffler and AA Gen I & III on the car. Problem was always there until I used the R4S or PF90s. Thinking of trying the EBC or Hawks. Anyone used both? Preferences? Thanks. S

#2. Wheel damaged at shop...question - from Steve Grigory

Date: Sun, 07 Apr 2002 00:02:02 -0800 From: Steve Grigory <sgrigory@pacbell.net> Subject: Wheel damaged at shop...question This will perhaps sound like a dumb (or obvious) question, but... Took my car in to an America's Tire store in Mt. View, CA to get a set of new S03's installed. They matched Tire Rack's price and a buddy of mine highly recommended them. Plus I thought it would be good to have a shop to take the car back to if something ever went wrong with the tires. Sadly, I have found I already have a reason to go back to them. A few days later (i.e. yesterday) I noticed that one of the wheels has a good size chunk taken out of it! Admittedly it's in the finish, the wheel is functionally fine. The damage is on the surface of the rim lip, about half way between the two edges. There is also a healthy scuff a bit further down the rim, but on the lip of it. The big chunk is missing both the clear coat and the gray finish of the wheel. Looking at the missing chunk, it's obvious it's not a curb rash type of abrasion. It could be where something used to say pry off the tire gauged the rim. And there is pretty much no way this damage was on the wheel before the tire shop replaced the tires, I would have seen it. So, I plan to take it back Monday and complain. I have no idea how they will handle it. Anyone here ever had a similar issue? I'm curious...

#3. 95 M3...failed smog!!! - from Steve Grigory

Date: Sun, 07 Apr 2002 00:11:38 -0800 From: Steve Grigory <sgrigory@pacbell.net> Subject: 95 M3...failed smog!!! For the first time ever, one of my car failed the CA smog test...!!! It was way over on HC, a 'gross polluter.' I took it to a good independent shop and they discovered the O2 sensor was very sooty and replaced it. The car got better, HC-wise is still way over limit. It also has an intermittent hiccup or miss- you can hear it as the car idles. It's there, but it's very faint. They then swapped out the ignition coils in pairs, and tested the car. No change. The next step (and rather painful I think) is to check the injectors. We put a can of injector cleaner in the car with another one in the trunk for the next tank of fuel. I listened to the car tonight as it was warmed up and idling. I "think" I can hear it still missing a bit- it's faint. But I could be hearing 'nothing' if you know what I mean. The mechanic also said the car pinged its brains out in a few 2nd gear runs. I did a hard 2nd gear run tonight and it ran great! His runs were with the old O2 sensor though. So, I'm looking for advice before my next visit back to the shop next week. steve

#6. bypass valves - from Kit Wetzler

Err... The bypass valve on the roots-type blower is just there for simply that reason... to bypass the blower. Boost does not need to be regulated. With a positive displacement blower you are shoving in X amount of extra air in per revolution of the supercharger, boost remains 100% constant (except for volumetric efficiency, etc) The bypass valve merely lets the blower freewheel under closed and part throttle conditions. -kit

And how are you tightening the nut without the spring? Are you gripping the shaft in a vise? Usually, you need the tension from the spring to resist the turning ever so slightly for the impact method to work... > woops, go here for pics > http://bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=222246#post222246 Sorry...I didn't see any pictures of the front struts here...just some lame discussion about how to make your car handle worse and ride more harsh. Please don't slam your car...it'll make your wonderfully handling car (stock form) probably handle worse. Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
