Peter, I too got tired of broken fog lights - I replaced them both recently and it went 2 weeks before one got busted worse than the one it replaced. I consequently got a set brake inlets from BMP Design. They are black and made from fiberglass. They aren't expensive and I don't remember the price. They don't come with any mounting instructions - just some tiny clips - therefore I haven't mounted them yet. The clips may not hold up to long term use so I might come up with something more secure. I wish I had the time to guess on how to install them properly... I think Rogue Engineering also sells a set of Carbon Fiber inlets that are more expensive. Not sure about the mounting mechanism. - Bob -----Original Message----- From: peter@guagenti.com [mailto:peter@guagenti.com] Sent: Tuesday, April 09, 2002 4:15 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] Inlets that replace Fog Lights? As I kep breaking fog lights anyway, I'm looking to install them on my '95 to route brake ducting. As an aside, I've taken the advice of a fellow lister and I'm looking into running brake ducting for a while before I take the jump to big brakes. Figure it would still be useful even if I go to big brakes, so it's a good investment. Sorry I started all of the controversy by even bringing it up... -peterg

#3. Can anyone balance a tire correctly? - from Paul Elliott

Is this correct<< Huh? When I had my tires balance by the GSP-9700, the road force balance is NOT a separate balance operation...Rather, when the wheel is on the machine, the roller comes down to apply the road force at the same time the runout checker is performing its check, at the same time the balancer is doing its check...its an integrated machine where the wheel/tire only passses WHEN ALL 3 CHECKS ZERO OUT and BALANCE CHECKS TO 1/10 OZ. Now, maybe its possible to do these things separately, but when they walked me through teh method they use to balance the tires, the machine clearly will not 'ok' the tire until all tests are passed in the computer...So I have no idea what they were talking about with you...I was thrilled with the difference this machine made on mine, and it succeeded where every other machine and shop had failed. Id try another shop with this machine if I were you...Contact hunter on line for a shop in your area...If your in NY Metro, drop me a private email for the shop that Im so positive about. #7. Selling my 98 M3/4 - from GSCHOMI@aol.com

Date: Tue, 9 Apr 2002 20:25:49 EDT From: GSCHOMI@aol.com Subject: Selling my 98 M3/4 Hello everyone, its time to sell my baby: 98 ///M3 4 door 5spd Cosmos black/grey leather interior 46,000 miles, no accidents Remainder of BMW CPO warranty left till March 2004 6yrs/100,000 miles Has all options Except rear spoiler and heated seats. Major options are: OBC, Harmon Kardon stereo W/6 disc changer, power front seats, power sunroof, cruise, and M contour wheels. Safety: traction control with LSD, air bags including front side air bags. All inspections have been done by BMW and the oil (Mobil 1) and filter has been changed every 3000 miles. Fuel filter and spark plugs were changed at 35,000. I get 28mpg on the freeway at 75mph no problem. Best ever was 32mpg!!! I had an Eastern Motorwerks gauge pak professionally installed that has oil temp/pressure/volt meter which is where the sunglass holder was. Also had the 320 tranny mount bushings installed and the M3 convert. X brace installed. I just had new Bridgestone SO3 tires and Borbet type R wheels put on at 40,000 miles. I also have the M contour wheels, and the original Dunlop 9000 tires installed on Millie Miglia MM 2 sports. So that is 3 sets of wheels included!!! The car was pictured in a article on the history of ///M in Grassroots Motorsports April 2001 issue. My car is actually shown with the BMW M brand manager and Hans stuck along with all the M cars ever made. Great article for sure. I am also quoted at the end of the writeup when they announced the best M car ever bulit was the E36 M3!!! The windshield was just replaced at 39K from getting chipped by a rock. I drive the car to work everyday on the freeway. Most miles were put on vacations and road trips. We went to Florida twice, once to Texas, 3 times to Michigan, and once to Chicago. Also I drive a lot between Louisville and Atlanta for my job. So most is freeway miles. The car runs great and is a blast to drive. I have never had any major problems other than a faulty fuel gauge with a mind of its own (common on E36) and the gearshift light went out, which all were fixed under warranty. The service has been excellent and the car rock solid. The reason i am selling is i cant afford the car anymore. The payments and insurance are to much for my paycheck to handle with our bussiness not doing well at all. If the economy ever picks up i hope to get another E36M3. I am asking $29,500 OBO. Car is located just outside Louisville KY. If you have any questions email me at gschomi@aol.com or call 502 722 0039 anytime on the weekend or after 5pm weekdays. I can email a few pics if anyone is interested. Thanks for the long read. Eric G. Simpsonville, KY 98 BMW M3/4 cosmos 01 Mazda Protege ES Ex 99 SVT Contour owner 84 xj Cherokee "the rock crawler." To clarify, from the Tire Rack web site: When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest speed rating that would ever be required. Since that time the automotive industry has found it necessary to add W- and Y-speed ratings (indicated in the tire's service description) to identify the tires that meet the needs of new vehicles that have extremely high, top speed capabilities. Miles/Hour Kilometers/Hour P225/50ZR16 149+ 240+ P225/50ZR16 91W 168 270 P225/50ZR16 91Y 186 300 While all Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds of 149 mph and above, prior to the W- and Y-speed ratings were identified in the service, how far above 149 mph was not identified. Hope that helps, Jim Bassett

The original '95s had 8" widths on all four corners. This was changed, first with the LTW to 7.5/8.5 (which was a '95 model year), and then all '96s. At least on the LTW, you could take the 8.5s and put them on all four corners without any issues at all. In fact, you'd buy 3 wheels (two 8.5s and one 7.5) and you'd have two complete sets (by using the spare) of both big and little wheels. I used the narrow ones for street tires and big 'uns for the track. Going to a 17x9 requires different offsets/spacers and other potential issues (depending on the tire). Dan
