Date: Wed, 10 Apr 2002 11:43:54 -0700 From: "David Flanary" <dflanary@markhamvineyards.com> Subject: Where to stay near Laguna Seca I got into the Golden Gate Chapter's DE at Laguna Seca May 4-5. This is a new track for me, and I'm really looking forward to it. I have a list of hotels from the GGC website, but have no experience w/ any. I'm curious as to where to stay - don't need the fanciest, just clean and reasonable and close to LS. Anyone know where the club books for the instructors? David W. Flanary Markham Vineyards

My first school ever was Laguna; funny, I didn't notice the slippery slope at the time :-) >I have a list of hotels from the GGC website, but have no experience w/ any. >I'm curious as to where to stay - don't need the fanciest, just clean and >reasonable and close to LS. Anyone know where the club books for the >instructors? Cypress Tree Inn is usually where the instructors stay/headquarters. There are also a couple of Best Western's in the area that range from good (De Anza) to OK (Ramona Inn). Jim Bassett

They were booked when I called, and suggested the Loan Oak, which is right next door. I didn't shop around much, so I just booked a room there since it was so close to the "event hotel," and easier for me to follow everyone to the track to avoid getting lost. ;) Not exactly a bargain at about $66 (Friday night) to $100 (Saturday night), but I'm guessing that anything nearby would be close to the same. See you up there in 3.5 weeks! Jonathan L. >From: "David Flanary" <dflanary@markhamvineyards.com> > >I got into the Golden Gate Chapter's DE at Laguna Seca May 4-5. Lots of room, a Black Bear diner next door, 8mi from the track and much cheaper. Now I stay there even when I drive down. #7. RE: TC Kline Roll Bars - from Bob Tunnell

Date: Wed, 10 Apr 2002 15:30:44 -0600 From: Bob Tunnell <bobt@bimmerhaus.com> Subject: RE: TC Kline Roll Bars One last clarification... ProParts West in Canoga Park, California (which used to also be TC Kline Racing West before they separated late last year) also used to make bars for TC Kline Racing customers in the western U.S. I just learned they sold the last four bars made by their own talented in-house fabricator, using TC Kline Racing jigs, within the last 30-60 days. I also know they now have none left. If you purchased one of those bars rest assured that, although MIG welded, they are most definitely of the same excellent quality as previous TC Kline Racing bars whether from Ohio or California. But wait'll you see ours... <g> OK... I'm done for the day... two posts is more than my monthly quota. Thanks for the bandwidth. --Bob Tunnell www.BimmerHaus.com

I'm not totally convinced that rocks are what break the foglights. I've had mine survive for over a year on the car, no problem. What breaks the foglights is scraping the front airdam on something. I mean, I accidentally bonked one with a hammer and it was fine... -kit -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .

This speaks of very high quality (the TIG welding instead of MIG). TIG welds (without going into a lengthy explanation) are all-around better than MIG welds, and they look a whole lot nicer, too. But TIG welding is much more difficult than MIG welding. Think of TIG welding as oxy-acetylene welding where electric current replaces the gas flame. Fantastic control, but sloooooow going. MIG welding is fast, cheap, and more appropriate when you've got to do many linear feet of welding. The one place where MIG welding was appropriate when installing my TIG-welded and weld-in cage (see Suzy's site for some pics) was on the "backing plates" placed on the body, where the cage mounted to the body. MIG welding was necessary / a better choice there because of the huge difference in the thicknesses of the two pieces being welded together (3/16" plate and body sheet metal). There, MIG welding was perfectly adequate and reduced the possibility of inadvertently burning through the body sheet metal. Since Bimmerhaus is selling bolt-in units (I presume), all-TIG is definitely the way to when producing them ... (Not a Bimmerhaus customer, haven't seen their work, blah blah blah .... just adding my $.02 ... I really admire well-built, safe cages. And no, I can't TIG weld, currently I can only MIG weld.) -- ______________________________________ Andrew E. Kalman, Ph.D. aek@pumpkininc.com
