Date: Fri, 12 Apr 2002 00:30:16 -0400 From: "Tim Williams" <willtj@bellsouth.net> Subject: Broken Seat My driver's side seat (manual sport) release lever stopped working. I found the list archive on the subject, but am having trouble. - I haven't yet been able to remove the lever. - The writeup refers to torx fasteners located at the bottom of the seat back. I haven't been able to locate such fasteners. Can anyone help? Thanks. Tim Williams 95 M3 (6/94)

It doesn't make sense to me to buy sawzalls and other tools and trying to kludge the thing together when it can be done right very easily. My .02! It is probably overkill, and probably won't help at all, but I had them so why not. The bolts were plenty long enough and I do not anticipate any problems and haven't had any in about 1000 street miles and one autocross so far. This weekend at the track will be a good test. Have you, or anyone else on the list, used the Z3 'plates' with the GC RSMs? I had the GC RSMs on my ITS car, but I never tried to use the Z3 plates with them. I'm just wondering if the plates can go between the body and the 'C' clip for additional support. It doesn't seem like there should be any problems to me, as long as the studs are long enough. I'm not sure the 'C' clip of the GC mount was designed to help serve that exact purpose. Rich

All you have to do is drill out the washers and two bushings from 10mm to 12mm. The DA Koni shaft is a little bigger diameter. Just did this about three weeks ago. One C-clamp like plate with downward protruding screws goes into the trunk. Than the main plate bolts to the shocks and gets attached to the C-clamp from inside the wheel well. A very cool solution to the problem of removing the rear shocks without tearing apart the trunk liners (a PITA). alex f

My rears are clearly marked as BMW M3 29 910 HA but they are several years old. Neil 96 M3

This should alleviate a lot of the potential stress risers. You can get the digest form of the list, I get 2-3 emails a day, about 10 posts each.
