#1. Cross Drilled Rotors - from HYPERM3@aol.com
Top
Date: Fri, 12 Apr 2002 10:29:42 EDT From: HYPERM3@aol.com Subject: Cross Drilled Rotors I installed CDR's on my car almost 2 yrs ago. They definitely are not just for looks, they work (once hot that is). I wanted the same stock size and didn't want to go crazy on big brake kits so I opted for the Stillen CDR's. I also went with steel brake lines at the same time and race pads all around, PF/front, Porterfields/rear. Not to say the stock brakes aren't good, but when using a supercharger to propel the car, stopping from triple digits becomes more common and the need to slow quicker has to be there. One thing I can say about these disks are they never rust or get a rust-like coating. Ive been very impressed with that. CDR's will crack but it depends on the process on how they were drilled or cast. I honestly don't know the difference but obviously Porsche has it down otherwise it wouldn't be a stock component. Needless to say these rotors have held up really well to street, autox, and drag endurance. I did a 40-0 test with my buddy soon after they were bedded and he almost went through the seatbelt, yes, they grab that good. Yes, they have to get warmed up to perform well, especially if you put on race pads. Yes, they squeal too. Yes, I would recommend it to anyone who wants the look and the advantage of the extra stopping power. If you don't track race at all, I would say the worry of them cracking is pretty nil. I had mine done (recharge) at a local generic Automotive shop. As long as they are trained in using the AC systems diagnostic and recharge equipment, there should be no problem. I had mine completely evacuated and the R134 put back in, plus an additional 8 ounces. This evacuation process removes any latent moisture from the system. If they are doing a leak check they may need to fill the system first, add the fluorescent dye, and check for leaks with ultra-violet light before evacuating the system and replacing any defective parts. Hope this clarifies things a little, Mel -----Original Message----- From: James Mckenna [mailto:shutupkid@comcast.net] Sent: Friday, April 12, 2002 2:58 AM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] NO AC Date: Fri, 12 Apr 2002 03:51:39 -0400 From: James Mckenna <shutupkid@comcast.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] NO AC my ac died too, is the dealer the only place to get it recharged? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Thursday, April 11, 2002 10:27 PM Subject: RE: [E36M3] NO AC > Date: Thu, 11 Apr 2002 21:19:32 -0500 > From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> > Subject: RE: [E36M3] NO AC > > A good AC shop can determine the location of the leak with dye and replace > only the leaky components. #4. 17x9 rims with 235s - from Rich Beebe

Date: Fri, 12 Apr 2002 10:57:38 -0400 From: Rich Beebe <rich@beebecomm.com> Subject: 17x9 rims with 235s Has anybody here ever run a 235/40 tire on a 9" rim before. i want/plan to run the kumho V700s for autoxing and the only tire available, that will fit, is the 235/40-17 right now. i talked to tirerack already, as their site listed 8-9.5" as the rim width range, and they say the 235 will fit fine (although not the optimum width). i know it's a stretch, so I'm hoping I can find someone who has run the combination and had no problems. Thanks. Rich

Actually, a more popular tire for autocrossing is the Victoracer in 255/40- 17. They're about the width of the Hoosier 245/40-17. I ran them for a while and really loved the extra grip. If you have some negative camber in the front, they should fit without rubbing excessively. -p ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using HiSpeed Technologies Webmail. http://www.hispeed.com

That is not to say that there are not Brembo original equipment sized rotors out on the market that are cross-drilled or slotted. Unfortunately, companies are taking the Brembo aftermarket rotors (plain rotors) and altering them by cross-drilling or slotting them and putting them back in the Brembo box and saying that are Brembo cross-drilled rotors. This is a small distinction to note, but an important distinction for sure. We are in the process of developing and manufacturing a new line of rotors that meet this need. They are original equipment sized rotors that are engineered by Brembo to be cross-drilled or slotted. We will offering these with a performance pad upgrade as well.
