#1. ABS Pump Cycling - from Neil Maller

Date: Sun, 14 Apr 2002 10:17:04 -0500 From: Neil Maller <neil.maller@gte.net> Subject: ABS Pump Cycling Did someone post info a while back on how you can short a couple of pins in the diagnostic connector to activate the ABS pump? Or is that just a wishful dream on my part? (I've tried searching old Digests, but we discuss brakes and ABS too much to get the number of hits down to a reasonable number to check.) I've been using the traditional stomp-on-the-brakes-until-the-ABS-cuts-in method, but something a tad more controllable wouldn't hurt. Neil 96 M3

The baffle is flexible plastic. It's extremely easy to cut holes or slots in it for the A/C lines if necessary. Since you're in Canada and have a 94 M3 I'm guessing it's the 286 hp 3.0 Euro version - you lucky dog! - so I looked up the duct parts for it: same as the US version according to the Parts CD. But who knows, maybe there were undocumented differences on early production models like yours? Neil 96 M3

Date: Sun, 14 Apr 2002 11:02:48 -0500 From: "Jeff A" <aabel@austin.rr.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] ABS Pump Cycling Here's what I found in the archives. Jeff ------------------------- From Ron Katona: Removing the ABS pump motor relay located in the fuse box and applying 12v to pin 2 of the socket will activate the ABS hydraulic pump. I assume this is what you're referring to? But what about the valves in the ABS hydraulic unit? When you run the pump, you pressurize the ABS hydraulic unit, but are you actually cycling fluid through the unit without opening or closing the inlet and outlet valves at each line? I've run the pump before to investigate whether this aids in bleeding, but I didn't reach any firm conclusions. I think the BMW Modic cycles the valves in a certain manner to actually flush fluid through the ABS hydraulic unit... but I could be wrong. Are you certain that simply running the ABS pump flushes the ABS system? I'd love to hear that this is the case because it's as easy as pie to get the ABS pump motor to run. From Geof M. it's very simple. The ABS relay closest to the firewall, pull it and jump the two middle connections. If you turn the relay upside down so that you are looking at the prongs, you will be jumping 30 and 87 contact points. That's it! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Neil Maller" <neil.maller@gte.net> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Sunday, April 14, 2002 10:17 AM Subject: [E36M3] ABS Pump Cycling > Date: Sun, 14 Apr 2002 10:17:04 -0500 > From: Neil Maller <neil.maller@gte.net> > Subject: ABS Pump Cycling > > Did someone post info a while back on how you can short a couple of pins in > the diagnostic connector to activate the ABS pump? This is the winner of the vote that took place last year, except the outline of the car is now white instead of black. The actual decal will be about 4.5" long by 1.5" high with a clear background. Payment arrangements will be announced later, for now I just need to know how many decals I should order. http://www.bmw-m.net/decal.htm Suzy suekraft@new.rr.com

Date: Sun, 14 Apr 2002 13:24:51 EDT From: ERogers005@aol.com Subject: Evo 2 Seat Mounts Geof .. check Conversion Techniques in Oakland. They fabricate this bracket on a regular basis and you can save yourself some trouble by purchasing it from them. I have an Evo 2 seat in my 95 M3. CT did the fabrication of the brackets and installation as well. The brackets bolt to the standard seat mount bolts and overall it's a very professional product and install. #8. Spare DME? - from David Hogg

The OBDII DME's are indeed coded from the factory and are not interchangeable unless you name's Conforti. How about the Shark Injector? You don't even have to pull the darned thing out and skin your knuckles! Dave Hogg

#9. Modded 95 M3 vs Stock 99 M3 ?? - from Mike Tse
Top
Date: Sun, 14 Apr 2002 18:57:19 -0400 From: "Mike Tse" <phid_bombadier@hotmail.com> Subject: Modded 95 M3 vs Stock 99 M3 ?? Does this make sense? So here's the setup: (ignoring handling) 95 M3 - Euro Conforti HFM intake, 96+ Exhaust, E30 flywheel/clutch, 3.38 Diff. 99 M3- Bone Stock as far as we know (no intake, no exhaust). Similar mileage in the mid 50Ks. Didn't have time/ roads to do full comparisons, but here's what the butt dyno says. 99M3 definately pulls much stronger in every gear (Of couse due to the more torquey engine) 95M3 makes power (more than 99, who knows??) after 4k. Side by side 4th gear, 60mph-90mph, WOT, 99M3 pulls away a car length then we pace... Both drivers agree that the 99M3 feels stronger in general. We'll test further tomorrow, but just wondering what other people's thoughts are. Is there something wrong with the 95, or are these characteristics possible/correct? Now even if the 99M3 has a chip (flashed), does this still make sense? I always assumed a 95 with the Euro Conforti HFM system would be putting out more power than a stock 99 (chipped w/o intake or not). (95 feels like it bogs below 3500 RPM but it's always felt this way.) Time for Cams I guess... Any input would be appreciated.
